Poor Fish Visual
This is my first fish finder and it may be me; however, my friends who have fish finders looked at this unit and were surprised at the poor fish visual it produces which are simply lines or dashes ILO fish images. The image produced is of little or no value to me when searching for fish. I do find the depth meter and structure images of value. If someone reading this review is able to instruct me on how to change the view on this fish finder, it would be appreciated.

This worked well, the first couple of times, ...
This worked well, the first couple of times, then started to give blank readings. We needed to know the depth of the lake and it kept stopping on us. Since then, it does that a lot, so we aren't as thrilled with it, as we were at first.

Sonariffic
I am a rookie and this is my first fish-finder/sonar for my first boat (Tracker). I have not fully tested this device but here is some elementary facts. It has the "downscanning" option. I never liked the fish-finders I have seen that have a GUI/screen/image that looks like an old Atari Video game. This does not have this "Atari" look. I believe the "downscanning" feature makes it more like a drawing of the objects below, which is cool. It seems to create an image that is similar in quality to one of those pictures you get from the sonar that scans a pregnant woman stomach. Kinda grainy and not very detailed but still shows large objects and bottom features with respectable accuracy. This device did NOT come with GPS and although there is another port for connecting an additional device other than the transducer/sensor, I do not think the device supports GPS (the second port in the back of the device is for connecting/adding the ability to register boat speed. I did not buy this additional feature. This device does report temperature using the included transducer/sensor and it seems accurate. This device does not have any hardware for attaching the transducer. You will have to buy cable fasteners, drill bits and marine epoxy/silicone for when you need to mount the transducer to the back/bottom of the boat. Once you mount the stand/bracket for the main device/screen it can be tilted up/down but not left to right. The transducer cable connects/locks into the back but is also is easily disconnected and the whole device can be pulled out of its stand/bracket for safe keeping (or stolen). Screen brightness is poor in bright sunlight. I have a Bimini top on my Tracker so it helps a great deal with seeing the screen, but if you don't have some sort of shaded area around the device (or a cloudy day/night) you will have difficulty seeing the image on the screen in bright environments. The device seems durable, buttons seems sturdy and interface is intuitive (couple of hours of use and you'll know all the features). Understanding what you are seeing on the screen can be tricky, but there lots of YouTube videos that can help with that issue.

A miserable experience!
I have installed many depth sounders on my various boats since the early 1960s. This was to be a simple install on a pontoon boat. After 3 days trying to get this unit to work consistently, I presumed it was defective, returned it to Amazon and ordered a replacement. Second unit behaved exactly the same way. They would work as long as the boat was absolutely stationary at the dock. A few minutes after departure, still at idle, they would lock up at 2.8' and not recover, even if shut down and powered up again. On two separate units, I had tried various combinations of two transverse transducer locations, 4 vertical locations and 4 pitch attitudes of the transducer. Once it worked for about 20 minutes, producing a beautiful bottom picture of some fallen trees. Then it locked up.I called Lowrance product support and a rep answered almost immediately. He said the problem was the transducer installation and suggested I send pictures of it, which I did. He said they would respond within 24 hours. That was a month ago...still no response.I really wanted get one of these units working, but if they are that sensitive and temperamental, they don't belong on my boat.Larry Cruzen

A great product
I think this is a great product for the price. The display looks so clear and it has other features we have not had on a fish finder in the past, like water temperature.

Sorry I bought this one
It may be me, but other than working as a depth sounder, I don't get the fantastic images the demo mode shows. Could all my lakes and bays be just a flat sandy, or mucky bottom with no structure? The transponder mount makes a big difference in function, tuning it right takes a few trials, which is to be expected.

Great product, great value
I bought this for my dad's 60th birthday. He has used several times and says it's fantastic. I recommended he look up on youtube how to install it. He found some helpful videos and said it was a breeze setting it up. He says the screen is very easy to read and the overall interface is very easy to work with. I recommend this product.
