Allows my to use chrono under low-angle range lights at night.
Originally, I purchased just the Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph by itself (not the premium kit), because my budget was tight, and I already had a tripod. The chronograph worked great in an open field during the day, but when I took it to the outdoor range at night, it would not read. At night, my local outdoor range uses very bright stadium lights that are located above the shooter and face down range to illuminate the targets. I think that because the light is being directed at such a low angle. it does not cast a shadow down on the chrono when the projectiles passed over it.After adding these lights, the chrono worked great under the low-angle range lights. Of the 100 rounds that I fired through it during my last night shoot, I got errors on 8 of them, the rest all recorded just fine. Before adding these lights, my chrono would not record a single shot under my range's lights. Now I wish I had bought the premium kit, because these lights don't fit in the bag that came with the chrono. I have to carry the chrono, lights, and tripod together in a separate backpack. It would be nice to have a more compact case that fit everything. The instructions say that the batteries for these lights should last around 2 hours, but I shot for just under 3 hours and did not have to replace the batteries in the light's battery pack so battery life seems better than advertised. I am happy with this product and would recommend to anyone shooting indoors or at night, where the lighting conditions are less than ideal.

Wrap in a dense, opaque black cloth.
I got this upgrade in an attempt to get the Caldwell Chronograph to function reliably. For indoor use it was no good without this added technology and, I hate to say, was not very much better with it either. We finally got the chronograph to work flawlessly by wrapping the entire device, lights and all, in a dense, opaque black cloth. What a shame that a device like the Caldwell Chronograph which is an excellent piece of equipment gets a bad wrap because too much or too little light hampers it's operation. This also fixes the problem with fluorescent indoor lighting. This problem cost this product two stars even though it is quite good once de-bugged.

Works well!
Did not know if this was a fix for the inside range, but I wanted to give it a shot (no pun intended). First visit it recorded 99% of all shots, I guess I will blame that on user error for the last 1%. The indoor range I go to is all fluorescent lighting and not bright for the chrono to record shots without help. This was pretty easy to se up and what you really have to worry about is not running out of batteries and the main reason would be not to shoot the kit or the chrono.I would be again if I had too.

Caldwell IR light kit with CE Chrono
Well, I took my Competition Electronics, ProChrono Digital Chronograph to the range this week. I reamed the mounting holes on the Caldwell Chronograph Light Kit with a 3/16" drill bit, and the two products went together nicely. I was shooting indoors, in a range fully lit with florescent lights, and with the Caldwell Chronograph kit, there was no issue getting consistent readings. As it happens, both wall lanes were in use, so I plugged in the supplied battery pack and proceeded without incident. Definitely a worthwhile addition to overcome unfavorable lighting conditions.

50 as I did that said it’s still great value!
This chrono is top draw for the money, though if you are operating on a fixed budget, one should note when purchasing this item in the UK from the US you may have to pay import VAT of £10.42 and a customs clearance fee of £13.50 as I did that said it’s still great value!!

Must have if you need to chrono indoors.
If you have to chrono indoors and you already have the Caldwell Chonograph, this light kit is a must. The light kit has worked every time in what I would say is just so-so lighting. I've used it battery operated as well as with AC power. I have tested this with and without the lights indoors and trust me, it does not work or work reliably without the lights. With the lights, it works great.

Absolute necessity for indoor shooting
If you’re shooting indoors, there’s no way it will work without this light kit. Seems kind of pricy for a couple of IR LED’s.

It works better than the white plastic sun shades
It works better than the white plastic sun shades, but the chrono is still very sensitive to bullet alignment through the chrono. I am very careful about alignment but I still get about 5 % bad reads. I considered this an upgrade to my Caldwell chronograph but it didn't make much of a difference. Also the build quality is poor and I have no idea why they used two power switches. It is one more thing to forget to turn on.
