digital converter (for dummies)
Easy to install and working very well. I may need to purchase another one for our guest bedroom and won't hesitate to do so.

Better to Flush Your Money down the Toilet
THIS IS A NON-RETURNABLE ITEM - This item requires an external antenna. I bought two (2) of these, they do nothing. I tried both at different houses in different cities. I used three (3) different antenna and nothing. I called the support number and got nothing. Save yourself weeks of aggravation and just flush your money down the toilet.

Better suited as a portable Digital Converter Box.
Unlike most other converter boxes, the LTA-260 has a 5v 1400mA power supply. Meaning, if you can find a car adaptor that supports 5v and at least 1400mA this is ideal for RV's or camping. More mA will not hurt the unit, but more volts will. Radio Shack has some GPS adaptors which may work.Unlike the other boxes I have tried this one is very finicky about the antenna and less forgiving with reception. There is no "rescan" option to let you scan for new channels without deleting existing ones. It either picks up the channels or it does not. Spotty reception channels may be cajoled into working with moving the antenna. Results varied from two different sets of rabbit ears, but in general I receive more stable channels with less re-orientation with other converter boxes. The diminutive remote control barely measures 1.5"W x 5"L x 0.5"D. While the blue arrow keys double as channel and volume changers, there isn't anything really exciting here. The "screen" button is useful if you are the kind to switch from 4:3LB (Letter Box) to 4:3PS (Pan & Scan) to 16:9 mode. 4:3PS fills the screen and I left it at that. This was purchased mainly for use with portable TV's which do not stay in one place for very long. I did manage to get a simultaneous image from both the coax and RCA jacks. You may need an F-Connector to plug into the mono antenna jack of some portable TV's. When using an F-Connector, set the audio to mono.I rather like the potential portable aspect and palm sized remote, but it simply does not give enough stable channels for me to use it in the house between portable ventures. Maybe a better antenna is needed. Neither is there a way to remove the weak reception channels.I'm in the NY / NJ metro area between 3 to 11 miles from various transmitters. I should not have this kind of trouble. But when it does work the channels look great as does even the cheapest converter boxes. Count the Lasonic LTA-260 among the cheapest. It doesn't even have channel buttons on the box.2.5 stars out of 5.

Nice Picture for a Small Price...
I wanted to try out a box with my government rebate that I could use with my cheap old antennae and decent TV. So when I got this from Amazon for very little after the [...], I was very excited. The first impression I had, was that the unit is so small! I pictured a VCR size box but it was about a 1/3 of the size. So it will not clog up your space. On the down size the remote is also very small, almost palm size and this would be easily lost in my home. The buttons on the remote were also hard to push and very cheaply made.Set up was easy although the manual must have been translated to English but can be understood. The programming was simple and the channel scan found about 50% more stations than I received with the antennae alone. The picture is VERY clear and as good as when I had digital cable. The on screen channel information is an added bonus.Overall I would say I did get my money's worth and would buy this again for each of my TV's. My only suggestion is to program the unit to your universal remote which can be done with the help of the last page in the included manual.

LESS THAN TWO YEARS IT STOPPED WORKING
I GOT THIS DEVICE ON MAY 22, 2009 WHEN THE CONVERSION WAS REQUIRED. ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT STOPPED WORKING. NO WARNING. THE ANTENNA HAD NO SIGNAL. THEN THE POWER NEVER TURNED BACK ON. CANNOT BELIEVE IT DIDN'T MAKE IT TO THE TWO YEAR MARK.
