TERRIBLE RECEPTION - NO EFFECTIVE ANTENNA
I have had this thing for a while, but finally got around to testing it. Cute little unit. That's where it ends. Unless you are on top of very powerful FM transmitters, reception is horrible! The problem is obvious - there is NO CONVENTIONAL ANTENNA. The weak and too small antenna is designed into the wrist strap. BAD IDEA! For decent reception, you need to be in contact with the wrist strap for all but the strongest stations. No, I am NOT kidding you. I tried to attach or wrap a regular antenna around the strap. Didn't work. I cut the strap, and fished out the wires and connected it to a decent antenna - no improvement. I tore out the damn strap. No reception. I tore off the back of the entire radio, observed the strap is split into two leads and weirdly connected to the circuit board. Thus properly destroyed, I salvaged the little speaker and the connector cords, and promptly threw the bloody thing in the trash with the rest of the garbage. The Kaito KA29 is older and still runs circles around this unit. Additionally, when it is recording - the reception gets even worse. LOL. 30 bucks flushed. Ugh!

A great recorder for a great price
After positive experiences with other Tecsun products, I wasn't worried about ordering the Q3 but for $30 I didn't have my sights set too high. However, After trying the Q3 and putting it through it's paces I found it was much better than I thought it would be.The FM radio is based on a single DSP type IC that Tecsun uses in several models, and it doesn't fail to impress again in the Q3. The sensitivity is very good for such a small radio. The carry strap has the antenna inside, and while I haven't seen this on other radios, it works quite well. The keypad allows you to enter stations manually, you can use the forward and reverse buttons to seek out stations, or you can simply press the ATS button and it automatically scans the FM band and enters the stations into memory. This is the easiest way to tune. The recorder function works smoothly, and a modest size micro-SD card will record and store many hours of programming. You can record from the FM radio, the built-in microphone, the line-in jack, or the mini-USB port connected to your computer, IPad, or phone. Depending on what input you're recording from, the Q3 separates it into a music or voice folder and then into 60 minute "files". The built-in microphone does a great job and provides a very "clean" sound with full fidelity. It has a surprising amount of nice features and "extras" for a low-priced recorder. The (included) rechargeable lithium-ion battery lasted for over 6 hours of continuous use on a single charge, it is stereo (when using the headphone / audio output jack), and in addition to playing MP3 files, it will also play WAV and WMA audio files. The sound? Fantastic for such a small device. Some reviewers didn't care for the sound quality, but it's surprisingly good for something a little larger in size than a pack of cigarettes. It has plenty of volume, and a deep tone quality that makes it seem like a much larger speaker than it really is. If you want super-high quality audio, you're going to have to go with something much larger in size than the Q3.All in all, the Tecsun Q3 is a real bargain and a very capable performer. The package also includes a rechargeable battery, audio input cable, mini-USB charger / computer connection cable, instruction booklet, and warranty card.

Great little radio but there’s some issues
Radio has some great sound, records great, and I LOVE the size...but there’s a few issues I’ve had. First, when I put the headphone end into the plug, it still continues to play through the speakers. I have to pull the end out slowly until it plays through the headphones and stops playing through the speakers. Second, the LED display that shows the battery is not working properly. It always shows a full battery so I never know how much battery I have left before it dies. Third, you can’t save your favorite station to the buttons. You can only scan the stations and it saves on its own. So you can’t choose a station and which button to save it to. Just because there’s a station it picks up, doesn’t mean I like that type of music. That’s not a good way for storing stations.

Works great, built-in speaker sounds great for its size, can review/rewind not just track jump, display is quite limited
Review for: Tescun Q3 Mini Size MP3 Player, FM Radio and Voice/Radio RecorderDoes everything it says it does. The look grows on you I like it, I got the blue one. If you are looking for a small FM radio or mp3 player with a built-in speaker for a competitive price, this is a winner so far.SOME PROS:------------(1) You can rewind or fast forward within the tracks by holding down the buttons which many others in this class don't do, or of course you can skip back and forth from track to track by just hitting the buttons.(2) The sound is really good for a relatively little thing like this, both the speaker and with headphones.(3) It remembers where you were in a mp3 track when you shut it off and starts-off within a second of that spot next time you play.SOME CONS:------------(1) This probably isn't very water resistant as you might expect.(2) I wouldn't expect this to hold up to running abuse like many mp3 players are designed to handle, though I doubt many would get this one for that purpose.(3) It doesn't show you the name of the song or track or file you are playing on the display, just a number 1, 2, 3.. etc. when playing mp3 recordings. It does give you the radio station numbers, of course, when playing the radio.(4) It doesn't record as high quality as I would prefer, but most people would be very hard pressed to tell the difference.(5) My first one shorted out, as determined by the battery being completely drained and a new battery not resolving the issue. I got my money refunded by Amazon and I bought a replacement quickly without any issues.BATTERY:----------The replacement battery is the BL-5B.WHO IN U.S. TO CONTACT:--------------------------If you want to talk to someone in the U.S. about an issue, the company is:Kaito Electronics, Inc.5185 Cliffwood Dr.Montclair, CA 91763Main#: 1-909-628-6088Service:[email protected] that helps someone :).
