Yes, but: you should always have a sharpen stone or rod available, for any knife (or edged weapon). It comes out of the box fairly sharp -- but I sharpen any knife prior to use. My 3 options are: 1. Standard rectangular sharpening stone (Whetstone -- but also referred to as a Wet stone) This is simply because water (or honing oil) can be used on them to keep the pores in the stone clean. 2. Tapered diamond pocket sharpener 3. Ceramic rods -- on a base --- I use this Tactical spoke / knife in all of the Survival kits I put together for my clients. Highly recommended. Oh, FYI --- the whistle is not as loud as other survival whistles -- but can still be heard in a wooded area about 300 yards away. Ken F.
