Can it be used without a mat?

I would say no, unless you use it on a plush carpet. I have a thin yoga mat and wish I had a thicker one even with this towel. This towel is very nice though!

Have you used this towel for hot yoga? Does it actually grip to the yoga mat or does it slip off?

Yes, I use my towel for Bikram. It is far better than a regular bath/pool towel (which I was using previously). I wouldn't say that it grips the yoga mat but in certainly slips much less than other towels.

Is the hand towel non-slip too?

Sure is! Non-slip and super absorbent. When you don't have to worry about safe traction, you're free to concentrate on the yoga positions themselves. Enjoy!

Does it stick to hair? Like after washes, does it attract hair? Human hair or pet hair?

I haven't found that hair (human or pet) sticks to it. It actually washes really well.
