Purchased as a christmas gift for an artist friend, who has a few of the Jean Haines books. She was excited! Daniel smith is the top tier artist professional watercolor brand.

These paints are amazing. I feel they are the best set of watercolor. These metallics are very thick, rich and creammy. They feel a lot like Sennelier set of metallics. Trust me these paints will last you a very long time. I got them on sale for $29 and feel like I won the lottery. The set feels like gouache. Great job DS.

Great starter product

The media could not be loaded. It’s my first time trying shimmers from Daniel Smith. I like the effect, it’s not too sparkly on white so if you wanna see the full effect you better use it on dark. I paint flowers and I like to add some shimmery stuff on my flowers’ petals. Usually I mix them with regular paints (the last picture). My favorites are gold, green, blue and pearly white from this set, they are amazing. The paints are high quality, rich pigmentation. I mean it’s Daniel Smith we are talking about.

Great color

I have used Daniel Smith paints for years but avoided the iridescent/pearlescent colors. Mostly because of my disappointment with some of the primatek mineral colors (that everyone else seems to love). I found some of those leave a sparkle that is too heavy and granulating. However I saw a video of these and thought the price was good for the set.THIS is what I was looking for - esp the iridescent white and topaz. I love to paint underwater scenes and this adds just the right sparkle. While you could use these straight out of the tube the key really is to mix these with other colors. They mix beautifully - no mud. And even rescued some obnoxious colors I've bought - like a very disappointing perm green from holbien. The pearl white seems to go with everything (all the ones I've tried with several different brands besides DS like W&N, Holbien, Sennelier). The topaz gives really interesting effects too but all the other colors work.

Colors are gorgeous and can mix the white with any regular color and give it shimmer, so the possibilities are endless. Love these and totally worth the money.

This is high quality watercolor paint. I use the iridescent in a lot of my floral watercolors. Love Daniel Smith. This collection is so pretty.
