In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

They give good arch support and support at the ankles and are ...
These sneakers are much more supportive than I expected from an inexpensive training shoe. They give good arch support and support at the ankles and are much better than running sneakers for aerobics classes such as Step, Boot Camp, and Zumba. I wear these as my primary sneakers for these exercise classes now and my feet are hurting much less. Finally, a training shoe with a good amount of cushioning and comfort!

good support
I purchased this in a size 9 2E. (womens size. I am a woman). They were not a double wide (this is just to repeat and reinforce what has been posted in previous reviews). They are just a regular wide width. I normally wear an 8.5W in most shoes, but again, followed previous reviews. These fit more like an 8.5W. They have great support for a sneaker. I was in search of a new sneaker that I could wear to work. So, the following is a comparison to previous shoes I've worn to work. I had been buying Skecher go walks but alas, they are no match for those hard floors at work and I work 10-12 hour days. Those shoes are fine for short shifts and getting about town and yes, walking thru amusement parks. I found out the hard way that I needed more support for those wonderful retail store floors. I have a pair of Adidas walking sneakers that are an 8.5W that I Iike very much and gave me the support I needed, but when I bought them, it was from an Adidas outlet and now I can't find the follow up style. For fear of just plain wearing them out (because I had to put in a partial arch support in them to get them back to where they feel better to my feet), I had been on a quest to find a sneaker built like those Adidas. My brother (who is an athlete) turned me on to Asics. He said the support in them are excellent and since neither of us are spring chickens and both of us have wide feet, I gave Asics a try. I'm glad I did. I will say when I put them on straight out the box, I had to adjust the shoe laces or otherwise yes, they would've been too tight. The only thing is, the laces they came with need to be longer period. The length of the shoe is fine because going up to a 9.5 2E would have had the shoe falling off my heel. I will say had I known they were going to fit this well, I would've bought 2 at the cheap price I got these. I just got them and worn them for a 10 hour shift and they did fine. No knee pain or foot pain like I had experienced after working the same amount of time in my Go Walks.

From Disappointed to Beyond Awful
Update as of 5/4/17:I use them every morning before work and I hate them more and more. I originally gave them 2 stars out of loyalty to ASICS, but my feet are fatigued and in pain after every workout. My arch feels like it will collapse (I have relatively high arches and need plenty of support). Plus, I'm tired of clenching my toes in a vain attempt to keep my feet from sliding off the edges during lateral moves. And alternating reverse lunges? Forget it. My feet jam to the front of the shoe making if very uncomfortable. Seriously? Who thought it would be a good idea to put such a huge toe box on a cross-trainer? These aren't running shoes for crying out loud. Ridiculous. There's no support or stability at all in these. I do a variety of Beach Body workouts (T25, 21 Day Fix, Core de Force, etc). Lots of explosive moves both laterally and vertically. These shoes are killing my feet. I'll be moving them to the dog walking pile o' shoes.Original Post:I bought an older version of these in 2014 and absolutely loved them. It's now 2017 and the old pair is a bit (read: a lot) worn out for cross-training. It was a no-brainer to buy the same model (or the updated version). This newer model does not impress me. Everything I loved about the old ones is missing from this pair. There is very little cushioning for the ball of the foot during higher impact moves. The old pair had an indent (for lack of a better word) that cupped my heel and prevented it from sliding around in the shoe during lateral moves. Also, the sides were firmer and didn't allow the front of my foot to slide either forward or side-to-side. Unfortunately, the toe box in this pair is wider (and I didn't buy the W-width) and the sides aren't very supportive. Consequently, during side lunges, my feet slide to the edges of the footbed. When doing forward or reverse lunges, my toes jam forward (something they shouldn't do and didn't do in the old version). Cross trainers are supposed to be supportive of moves in cross training and prevent foot fatigue (duh!). My ASICS running shoes (designed for forward motion) actually have better lateral support than these do (and that's not saying much). Overall, very disappointed in these. For the price, these aren't much better than a pair of useless fashion sneakers in terms of functionality. Also, they're a little clunky looking. This isn't a big deal since I only wear them to workout in, but if they're going to be clunky, the least they can do is their job, and if they can't do their job, then they should look good. These do neither.I'll keep these until they wear out since it's past the return period, but I don't know what I'll get to replace them. I've always depended on ASICS, but it's clear I can't do that any longer--at least not for cross-trainers.

Wonderful Shoes
I go to Jazzercise -- dance aerobics -- most days and need a LOT of support and good padding because we jump and do all sorts of sideways moves. I bought these on a friend's recommendation, with a little trepidation because I usually prefer a higher top shoe with better ankle support. Let me tell you, these do the job. I've got plenty of support for side-to-side movement, and the under-ball of foot padding is wonderful. Fit is amazing. I like a big toe box and these fit the bill. I'm going to order these again. Recommended.

your foot adjusts to the new shoe and it is fine. you can even feel the support again
many reviews about how they are making them smaller had me very concerned. but i think these reviews may be incorrect. the shoes do feel smaller/tighter when you first put them on, but that is because they are brand new and you might be comparing them to worn-in shoes. after you wear them for a few hours, your foot adjusts to the new shoe and it is fine. you can even feel the support again. i compared all the numbers under the tongue and they are identical. it makes no sense that the numbers be identical but they make the shoe smaller. my two cents. i am very happy and will definitely buy them again - just hope they dont stop making them!!!

Great price on a solid pair of shoes
The previous reviews on this shoe were a big help. It does run just a tad small so I ordered a 1/2 size up and it is perfect. I also have the same issue that another reviewer did with a crease across the top of the shoe. It doesn't bother me, but I am guessing that is why these are on Amazon and not at our local high-end running store. It does not impact the performance of the shoe at all.
