Star Wars Art: Ralph McQuarrie 2020 Poster Calendar Calendar – Poster Calendar, July 30, 2019

This is basically a set of (some poorly) cropped Ralph McQuarrie prints with a small calendar squeezed into the bottom 2” margin. I love the Ralph McQuarrie concept art for Star Wars and have his artwork on my walls already, so I purchased this without hesitation.The positives: Larger than life Star Wars concept art prints that have been restored from the original artwork, like in the 2 volume Ralph McQuarrie Star Wars collector’s edition. The original Star Wars portfolio prints (1970’s) were poor and so dark and muted that they paled in comparison to The originals. And these prints are large at 20X16.The Negatives: Why they even made this into a calendar is questionable, as the calendar looks like an afterthought, squeezed into the bottom 2” of the sheets. The prints are poorly cropped, not of great quality paper, and stretched to the vertical aspect while severely cropped in length, leaving much of the paintings looking incomplete. (See photos). In one print, they cropped half of the Tie Fighter off in the Death Star trench run. In another they cropped Max Rebo out of the print showing the Max Rebo Band concept art & left in an obscure background denizen from Jabba’s palace that nobody but ardent fans even recognize him (Hermie Odle).Packaging: The calendar is also packed in a huge collectors box to help protect it. However, I’ve ordered 2 and the postal service badly beat up 1 because the 3rd party seller slapped a label on the outer cellophane with no protection (returned) and the cover box was evidently damaged in the warehouse (see picture) on the other I purchased direct from Amazon. Thankfully the calendar inside was protected. However, if you’re a Star Wars collector and buy 2, with the intention to keep 1 sealed in the box, you’ll probably want to see if you can find one in mint condition at your local bookstore. To even open the box, it has a perforated rip seam (like a priority mail envelope) , so you’ll have to ‘damage’ the outer box to even retrieve the calendar.Overall, the idea was a stellar, but the execution was a missed opportunity. I’m being generous at 4 of 5 stars. Being a Star Wars Art collector, I think fans like myself would have much preferred a set of large uncropped Star Wars concept art prints on professional grade paper. If it was a limited edition too, I believe they would sell out quickly. No calendar needed.

Love the artwork. Very big and comes in a sturdy hard cardboard envelope to protect against bending. The only downside is that I assumed the dates would be larger. If youre using this as a basic calendar, its great, but there is literally no space to write anything on the dates.

This calendar is HUUUUUGE! I did not read the size and was expecting a standard sized calendar. Also there is not a lot of room to write information on certain dates so if you like to notate events on your calendar this is not for you. It just something pretty to look at which if that is what you want then it will work for you.

Ok, so I was shocked when the package arrived, because it was huge (like half the size of my front door). Guess I didn't read the dimensions, as I was so impressed with the art. But, even though it's huge, I love it. Such a nice conversation piece in my office. I 100% recommend.

I love this calendar. The images are display ready after the month is over. BUT if you want to protect them, find another box, the commerative Star Wars box they come is is barely big enough. Who ever designed it should be taken out back and put to pasture. They know that their target audience is collectors, but yet, they can't design a box to protect the print until you have the chance to frame them. 5 stars for the actual calendar. 1 star for the packaging.

The images are stunning, but the calendar aspect really deters its functionality.The dates are strung along the bottom in a sequential order, and it isn't possible to foresee the next month or the prior month.This definitely isn't a Planner's calendar.

Very excited to receive this calendar. The artwork is incredible concept pieces for the original and best of the Star Wars trilogies. Can't wait to get each month framed and on my wall.

I found this on Amazon Prime for just over £5 so it seemed common sense to bag it. Delivery stated it was 3 to 5 weeks which I was more than happy with and it actually turned up much earlier. The paper quality is excellent and I will be framing some of the prints which is the main reason why I bought it.It was a ridiculous bargain of a price, but even at full price it’s still a great buy.

brilliant calendar if you like star wars, or the art of star wars, very big prints to frame, on nice quality paper, totally recommended.
