An excellent crawler....with a couple of mods.
This crawler has great potential in stock form, and is an awesome indoor fun machine with a couple of modifications. The stock shock absorbers are way too stiff, they don't articulate at all. And the stock tires, while somewhat sticky, do not have foam inserts, and the chevron tread pattern doesn't let the tires grab at obstacles.I replaced the shocks and tires with Losi Trail Trekker parts. I found this a bit ironic, seeing as I bought and returned a Trail Trekker a while ago....Anyway, I did have to take a 0.136 diameter drill bit and ream the mounting holes on the shocks to get them to fit. This was done by hand, I think using a drill motor would have removed too much material from the mounting hole. I also repositioned the shocks to the lowest mounting location. While this did take away some ground clearance, I think the suspension articulates much better that way. The Trail Trekker wheels and tires are a direct bolt on, no mods required. With the new suspension and wheels/tires, I gladly give this crawler a full five stars. It's only limitation with my selected mods is ground clearance, but other than that, this crawler is awesome to drive. The suspension articulates nicely, the Trekker tires will grab at anything they touch, and the stock four wheel steering is awesome to have. While others take it further with extra mods such as chassis modifications and lipo batteries, I think my two selected mods are sufficient to make this crawler awesome. If you're handy, I suggest getting one of these, modifying it as I have, taking it to a messy room or cluttered desk, throw together a course, and have fun crawling indoors, rain or shine, night or day.One other note to those who want to buy this and keep it stock; use only rechargeable batteries in the crawler. You will need eight AA batteries for the transmitter (controller), and four RECHARGEABLE AAA batteries for the crawler. You can use standard Alkaline AA batteries for the transmitter, but do not use Alkaline AAA batteries in the crawler.

Nice little crawler
First one had dead throttle sensor on radio, but amazon quickly sent new one which as been a lot of fun for both the Kids and adults.4wheel steering is a big plus with locked differentials, and 4 steering modes give options for positioning. Crawler on tough obstacles.low top speed even lets my youngest drive it inside without crashing into everything, and makes every pile of small toys a great obstacle.

A bit of a let down
I had hoped that this would be the answer to my winter blues by letting me drive around in my house on those cold snowy days. Alas it wasn't.I will say that it was fun to "hop up" by lowering the suspension and putting a Lipo in it and new tires etc. But after that, it was down hill from there. I don't know what I expected but it's too small to climb anything even with the four wheel steering. The tires are not the greatest and the only ones I could fit on it sucked also.I have a Mini crawler (Losi) that is waaaaaay better, albeit bigger.I would say spend your money on a Micro quad copter for indoor fun ( I have one). You don't have to build a tiny track that will ultimately disappoint and you could buy two for the price of this redcat.Sorry but that's my take on it.

Idea is great, execution is awful
Car itself is mechanically sophisticated and seems well made. It's kind of small, but that could be okay. The fact that it needs 4 AA batteries and the battery retainers are really funky - well, you expect a hundred dollar car to maybe come with a rechargeable and charger, most do. However, the radio is quite bizarre. There are buttons stuck all over in weird places. It takes quite a while to understand and program the radio and to correct for steering imbalances. The first car we got simply did not work at first and the radio was not set up correctly. NB There is one inexplicable booby trap radio setting that allows you to go from 0-120%. HOWEVER you are not to ever set it beyond 100% or it may ruin the servo. So why on earth does the radio allow you to set it from 0-120% rather than simply self limit it to 0-100%? Things don't have to be this difficult. How about a radio with simple + - trim dials like so many other cars? And a simple set of buttons? And also please stick the idiotic bright blue glaring LED that blinds you when you are looking at the display where the sun don't shine. What is the point of that incredible annoyance?Returned two faulty cars. Second one we tried had been opened, would not go forward or back or steer at all. Wow.
