Great gift to spark imagination and to reawaken natural curiosity in all ages
Few books which I have read fuse the natural world so seamlessly with that created by humans. The author sparks her readers' imaginations and curiosity. Now as I move on foot and by car through the urban area where I live, my eyes search for signs of nesting habitat, possible places for small and large birds to perch and nest as well as those already in use. This book is great for all ages, for children who hear owls in the night from their beds across the spectrum to office workers once bored by their views from high inside tall buildings.

great
I use this in my classroom to show how animals adapt ti changes in their habitats. Pictures make it easy to use with young children or ESL students.

A Must Read for the City Dweler
This is a really interesting book. So many kids live in big cities. The cities are so busy, no one really takes the time to get to know more about their surroundings. This book however focuses on the nature aspect of the city. This book is just filled with pages of nice vocabulary words and information that so many children are unaware of.For example no one knew what Roost was. They knew all about nests but how they differ from a roost was new to them. After reading this book, would say a nature walk is a must. There is so much to see and explore in big cities, birds should be one of them. It would be interesting to see how many birds in this book the children can find.

a lovely book
This book has been around for a while (published in 1990) but it is a wonderful and intriguing topic -- how wild birds manage to find places to live and thrill in the city. Beautiful illustrations help to tell the story of all the amazing places and ways that city birds build their nests. Text is rich in information. Any child, young or old, will find this book fascinating, but a city-dwelling child will particularly enjoy it.
