SOG Molded Hard Nylon Sheath for Tomahawk HDN-F01 - Black

First up, I love the tomahawk (I have the full-size tactical model). The handle/head interface is MUCH stronger that I expected and all the worries I initially had were laid to rest after I saw a video of an SUV run over the thing and it didn't even phase it. I have had ample opportunity to use the 'hawk and it pretty much rocks for the price. I bought it as a general purpose camp tool, but it ended up riding in my backpack everyday @ college. (If they aren't gonna let us carry guns on campus...;) The beardless head shape is PERFECT for a self-defense tool. The 'hawk is very sharp, and a light swing brings pretty devastating results.The nylon sheath that the 'hawk came with is a total joke except as a cover. The 'hawk fell out of the sheath 3 times in the first 10 minutes I put the damn thing on my belt. So, I ordered the hard-shell sheath for it and it really is fantastic. The hawk goes in and out very easily, yet it is held in very securely. Nice trick SOG! One note however. I dropped the 'hawk and one of the screws in the hard-shell sheath broke. I contacted SOG's warranty dept. and told them what happened and they replaced it within 3 days! I have had many SOG products over the years and have never had to use their warranty, but it is good to know they respond so well and so quickly to their customers. Thank you SOG!!My only gripe is with the 'hawk's handle. I have big hands and long fingers and the handle is slender and somewhat slippery. I took care of this minor issue by using a bicycle inner-tube, which I cut into small strips and wrapped around the handle. Problem solved, no more gripe. The End.

The sheath that comes with the F01 is just plain not made to the same quality level as the tomahawk itself. As soon as I pulled this sheath out of the packaging I knew I had spent my money well. The tomahawk rides securely yet can be released in just about one second or maybe even less. By removing the two belt adjusters (a nice touch to include) it fits perfectly on my issue pistol belt. I have trekked around in the woods with it with no issues. I highly recommend this item.

I’m a veteran and I use the shell of an Army issue hydration pack for hiking. In it, I have a multi-tool, a butane torch, and a flashlight--all the essentials for survival.On that pack, I’ve attached the SOG tomahawk with this sheath. It works great. I can draw it from the back almost instantaneously.However, it is a hard sheath, and as such, it does rub the metal of the tomahawk.Coat the inside of it with oil if you don’t want rust spots on your tomahawk. Great quality and fit. But the unlocking mechanism will take a bit of getting use to. A bit pricey for what it is. But, works well enough.

The sheath that comes with the tomahawk is a joke. This one is awesome. It is almost over engineered. You can lock it in any angle. You can set the belt size to match your exact belt width. If you put the hawk into the sheath without locking it the hawk will stay in-- so if you need to go hands free for a minute, you don't need to bother locking.One possible improvement on future design is that the sheath seems to be easier to operate left-handed. There is no way to switch this.

If you have a SOG tomahawk, you must have this sheath. It is insanely easy to put the tool in and take it out of the sheath, and it is even reasonably easy to put the sheath on your belt and remove it without taking your belt off. Rock solid hold. I fell down an embankment at work and slid at least 20 feet downhill, the tool stayed in the sheath securely, and the belt tore (old worn belt), clip is still in perfect condition. An excellent accessory for a great tool.

Study and well made, but my main issue is it seems to be built for a left handed individual with no way to adapt it for right hand dominance. As it is there is no way to properly and easily deploy it with one hand for a right handed individual, sort of defeats the purpose in my opinion

ease and speed of access to the hawk. Unit it designed for left hand carry but can be used in many different positions and can be added easily to molle gear between the hawk and the sheath this is what i consider an excellent upgrade for the sheath.... being left handed i gave five stars becouse not many products are actually designed for left handed carry, and the shear access and speed at which you can recover the weapon from the sheath is outstanding

Much better than original pouch, which is almost dangerous, honestly.This lets you orient it any which way you like, and while I haven't tried it yet, I suspect that you can change the latch to the other side making mounting completely universal.This is an essential upgrade!

This is an awesome addition to an amazing tool. I can carry the hatchet out of the way behind me on my pack and still access it one handed without removing the pack. Was worried it wouldn't hold the hatchet well but after 40km through rough bush It never once slipped or tried to jump out. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
