Seems better than the newer series by far
Best chuck for drills that I've used for years including 5 Makita base kit drills (2 brushless).I don't know the name for it but there seems to be an extra lock rather than just ratcheting it tight in your palm: it has this "snap" to it as well which must be another new chuck system.Greater speed and power than a kit 2601-20Same, if not better battery life than the latterI don't know if I ever had this drill overheat to the point of bad smells, even drilling a 1/2" bit through 6&1/2" of wet PT.I've used this drill almost daily for three or four years now and it has still never let a bit go.... even round bits, yes.I just started to have problems with the drive..... took it apart, shook some rocks out, sprayed it with electrical cleaner... bam, back to normal and kicking major butt.I'm only writing this review now because my 8 year old 2601-20 has a trigger issue and I want to buy this again to be a mate with the other 2701-20 and .... whatever impact gun that I have.Figured if I were buying this, I might as well put in my carpenter's two cents. From what I have read about the heavier duty drills, like the m18 hammer drills of.... I don't remember the lines, they don't have this awesome chuck like this one. (so sad, no hammer mode)DEFINITELY a good workhorse drill.

Compact, powerful and brushless for long battery life and longevity.
This drill replaces one I "lost" and was chosen because the original was such a great performer, being compact, brushless yet very powerful.

Dont Buy, Not reliable!!!!
Not reliable. It failed after a month; LED stays on, trigger issue. I am thinking moving to the yellow Brand. I have 4 different drills from Milwaukee, 2 of them failed the first month, another failed after a year, just 1 out of 4 have no issues. Very low yield Milwaukee.

... drill have a defective LED lights that keep going bad. When the light goes bad
Milwaukee drill have a defective LED lights that keep going bad. When the light goes bad, it will drain the battery. You cannot keep the battery attached to drill. Great drill but the small LED light becomes a major issue. Yes, you can deal with customer service, repairs, and returns but who needs the aggravation!

Nice improvement over older models: Brushless
Very happy with this as a replacement to an older Milwaukee brush-meter model that I burned out after 10 years. Great tool.

Husband seems to like it!
Ordered this for my husband. He already had the Milwaukee impact wrench, so we only needed the drill, not the battery. So far he's used it quite a bit and seems to like it. Battery he had has for his impact wrench has worked a lot better than the battery from his Dewalt drill, so I think he was getting this one to replace his Dewalt drill instead of getting a new battery for it.
