Good material, but needs some work
As I think many people were, I was attracted to Rua's cover and it was the thing that immediately pulled me in. Some reviews made me hesitate a little but in the end I decided to give Rua a shot. The action started from the first page and didn't stop until the end of the book. That I thoroughly enjoyed. Also I have read books where the Sidhe form a prevalent part of the story and having this fresh view on how they enter our world and how they interact with us "humans" made my reader's soul sing with happiness. It is not often that I find a theme or theory that has not been used by another author. For this and for creating such a likable, strong heroine like Celeste I say a job well done to the author. But now it's time to get down to why I only gave this book 3 stars.First off the dialogue. It was rather choppy and forced and it sounded more like a play script than a book. I had trouble reading a few scenes because I felt like they were all actors just saying their lines! We don't get many reactions from the other characters and that really bothers me. When I am trying to get a picture in my head about what is going on and the author gives away absolutely nothing about the emotions or signs of emotions on the characters faces I feel like I am seeing a character's body, but it has no head. So that is somewhat distracting. Now number 2. The relationships. A half Sidhe moves to the same town as you do only a few weeks before you do and that means nothing? You trust this guy you barely know and have an unreasonable crush on with your life? We receive no back ground information on Rylan, he is a pretty flat character with no depth, he isn't very believable, and he falls in love with Celeste at first sight? Lord I hate insta-love. The only thing he really has going for him are his looks and his protectiveness towards Celeste, but their relationship just happens, there is no build up, no rising action, and no foundation as to why the relationship should exist. Now let's move on to Tink. A guy who becomes her BFF from her very first day, is Wicca, and no questions asked starts helping her out with whatever she needs even though they don't know each other? It was like the author wanted her to have this perfect gay guy friendship that all girls want to have and she gave the friendship no conflicts, it was nothing but smooth sailing between Tink and Celeste. Also I get that crazy things are happening to her, but she doesn't even bat an eye when Tink goes into the Wicca thing and everything that goes with it. It became more believable for me towards the end and I look forward to seeing their friendship progress in the next book.My favorite relationship was that between Celeste and her dad. Not only was it the most believable, but it was also the one that struck home for me. It kind of redeemed the other poor relationships throughout the book. Her relationship with her mom is okay, but unfortunately it suffered the choppy dialogue I mentioned earlier.Another thing that bothered me was the incomplete world building. We are told that there are many creatures yet we are only introduced to two. The author doesn't go into much detail as far as what the other side is like nor is the Tuathua history and life clearly explained. It left me with an incomplete feeling throughout the book because I felt like I was treading along the edge of a line and instead of crossing over to see what was on the other side, I stayed still and had to be satisfied with only getting a view as far as my eyes could see.Overall the book was okay, but I will be looking for some major improvements from the author in the sequel.

Loved it!
This was a great YA fantasy novelThe summary: This story is about a girl who just moved to a new town and a new school. There she meets Twink and they become best friends. As her birthday approaches strange things start happening around Celeste and with the help of Twink she understands that something is gonna change on the day she turns 17. She also meets Rylan who is mysterious and handsome and makes Celeste feel like she never did before, even when she tries not to like him. Celeste and her two friends start an adventure to figure out how to deal with the changes she experiences. The plot: The plot was flowing very well and i didnt get confused. Sometimes I feel YA novels can have too many twists that can make the novel more complicated than it should be. I loved Rua because the plot was interesting and it developed nicely. I liked the twist at the end.The characters: Celeste wasa very relatable protagonist and I really liked her. She was a lovable main character and she developed in the novel. She wasnt flat and dealt with the changes upon her without much drama which was nice for a change. Twink was an awesome side kick! I loved him and I hope he gets developed further in the next novel because he has a lot of potential. Rylan is a good love interest and I liked him most of the time but I still have my doubts about him. I feel like he has a dark secret and I want to see where the writer goes with the development of his characterThe writing: As I mentioned before the story is simple and easy to follow and i loved it! It is a perfect easy read to relax. I got really involved in the novel and finished it in 2 days. I loved the descriptions and the reference to Celtic mythology.Overall i think Miranda Kavi did an amazing job with Rua and I cant wait to read the sequel!!!

Great paranormal story
This was really different from any other paranormal books I've read and I really enjoyed it. Celeste is a normal girl going through normal teenage stuff. Her most irritating problem is having to start a new school whenever her family moves for her dads work, that is until her nightmares begin and strange things start to happen. Worse though is the school bitch taking a dislike to Celeste, best is meeting her first real friend 'Tink', then there's Rylan. The gorgeous boy who seems to watch her every move. When she turns 17 things start to happen forcing Rylan to confirm who he is but also affirming his feelings for her, which are totally returned. I really enjoyed this book, the story and plot were great, the characters are amazing and the world the author created is completely original. There are some sweet romantic moments for Celeste and Rylan, but Tink is the humour in the story. I would recommend to paranormal lovers.

A gripping start
A great start to a series, this book had me gripped from beginning to end. I do believe it would be enjoyed more by teenagers, but thankfully I still enjoyed it. Will definitely read the second!

Awesome
I loved this book! It's an interesting urban, fantasy and romance rolled into one. I liked it so much I read it again. Sad thing is it seemed a bit short. Other that, FANTASTIC!! :)

Ok (for a freebie)
I enjoyed the story in the beginning but had to give up mid-way as it became slow, and to be honest I got bored!
