Great Product

After used this silent plug, I don't think I'll ever buy the standard type again. It works by sending the ground to the tip while it's unplugged so you hear nothing until you plug it in. Then, the sleeve slides into the housing and breaks the ground contact, and it functions like a standard plug. It's not the easiest plug to solder, as the plastic internal sleeve is cumbersome to manipulate, and getting the two pieces to screw together is awkward. but with some practice it is manageable. Having just built my cables, I can't speak to the durability of the plug, but Neutrik has the reputation of being one of the best.

If you make guitar cables use these

I make cables (for friends and family). These plugs (for the guitar end) are amazing. The strain relief is the best there is, the plug is extremely well made and durable. They are a bit intricate to assemble, but not terribly difficult. But most important, you can switch guitars without having to mute the amp. If you perform live these plugs are an absolute necessity. I've given several to friends, everyone raves how good they are! I use a similar, non-muting plug (in a different color for ID) on the amp end. I've found that microphone cable is superior to most cable made for guitar cords. At the amp end connect both the shield and the black wire to ground. At the guitar end connect only the black wire to ground, leaving the shield floating (white wire is the hot at both ends). You get better resistance to radio interference and buzz. Use very high quality mic cable and you won't be disappointed.

Reliable, and boy is that silent switch nice!

I bought a cable that came with these already installed and I was a little skeptical about the endurance of the switch. After three years of using the cable, constantly switching between four different guitars and a bass on an almost daily basis, I had absolutely no problems with it.Unfortunately, there was a mishap with an object that weighs upwards of 300lbs landing on it, then sliding, that destroyed the plug. I don't think it is unreasonable at all that it couldn't withstand this kind of abuse.Since I have been completely spoiled by the silence when unplugging my cable I decided to replace it with the same plug and I am just as happy with the replacement as I was with the original. Being able to leave an amp cranked when unplugging and not being driven insane by the buzzing is rather convenient if you ask me.These are not exactly easy to put together, to the point that it seems like something didn't get sized right--it requires quite a bit of force to get the housing over the chuck to screw it onto the boot--but they are designed that way to prevent it from getting yanked off of the cable. These will be going on all my future cables if they don't come with them stock.

but nothing to regret when buying the best! Never tried one of these grounding plugs from ...

Neutrik quality, as always. Expensive, but nothing to regret when buying the best! Never tried one of these grounding plugs from them before. It works effortlessly with a Strat, Jazz Bass, probably everything. I put on cord and transmitter. This design is better than my previous brand, which had a single "button" for the ground, whereas this has a ring. Smooth. All I'd say and it's really just making a 4.9 star rating, is the strain relief is just a little too tight if using a braided cable (and consequently requiring heat shrink - if you've used braided cable, you'll know you need to heat shrink it to stop it fraying). It's possible, but really tight, by probably only a few thou.

Be gentle with this product.

I love these cable ends. They work as promised BUT they are susceptible to low impact damage even in studio use. the main metal shaft is prone to "cocking" in the assembly from even the mildest tugs or cable snags, causing the sliding ground collar to hang up in the rubber/plastic casing which renders the plug still usable but without the "silent" feature. Tweaking the metal shaft back to center solves the problem but that can be an unnecessary annoyance. Still, I like these ends!

If you have to plug an instrument into a hot soundboard, you should be using these connectors!

Easy to solder and well made (as you would expect from Neutrik). Perfect if you have to plug and instrument in or out while the soundboard is hot. There is a small band around the base of the plug that slides back when you plug into an instrument. The band grounds out the tip so no connection, no sound until the band is pushed back. By that time, the connection to the tip is solid so no loud pop out over the FOH speakers,in fact, no sound whatsoever. I play bass in the band and by using these connectors I can unplug the instrument to tune up during a show if needed. otherwise, you entertain the crowd with a loud pop or the sound of tuning between songs.I may get some more of these for use in my home studio, just because i don't like the "pop" when plugging in and forgetting to turn down the volume.

Best forget the rest

I've been playing Guitar for what now has been 48 years. In my early days, we could get shocked while playing electric guitars but that is for some other talk. I was looking for a cable with this type of end on it simply because I didn't want to damage my amps because I forgot to turn my volume knobs down on my guitar before I unplugged or plugged in. I found a 12ft Mogami cable with this end on it for $109.95. Well for me that is just too much. But I did have some 25 and 30 ft Mogami cables and thought! Wow! put one of these on them and put the cables in a sleeve and I've got some awesome cables for half the price. So I bought 3 and so to say I'm pleased with these is a gross understatement. If you have good cables already and you want to make them better! Put these on one end. Just don't' forget not to plug these ends into your amp or you can hurt the amp. The end with this on it goes into your insturment.

No more damaged gear or ears!

Love them. No more blown speakers! When taking apart remember to use a rubber band to hold the release together or disassemble inside a zip lock bag so you do not lose the spring.A speaker saver and an audio engineers dream for the guitar player who is always changing guitars!
