Great warm under quilt without many complaints.
Overall, there are a lot of things I like about this item. There are a few things I would change though. Here is a short list of pros and cons.PROS:It is versatile. Being useful as a sleeping bag or under quilt make it a nice multifunction item. So if you are hammock camping or tent camping you are covered, literally. It is my first down camping anything and I am impressed with the warmth it provides. It doesn't directly compare to other sleeping bags I have had that were colder rated etc because it doesn't really take time to warm up the insulating layers like traditional sleeping bags do. It is very warm but doesn't get too hot or hasn't yet and that is saying something as I am pretty warm natured. It just keeps you around the comfortably warm level. I haven't tested it below 60 yet but can speak to how well it warms as an under quilt. Hammocks are great but anything below 70 and you have a cold draft under you. I did several makeshift things before I got this item and it surpassed all of them. It has a wide range of hanging methods via several attachment points. That makes it very useful. It matches the pictures in that it can be used as a traditional under quilt or as a sleeping bag around the hammock for a nice protective cocoon. I have my hammock setup with a structural ridge line for a comfortable hang. This fits around that great. Even when zipped, I can still get a decent diagonal lay due to it's size.CONS:There aren't many of these and one I am not sure how to best address all of them. The first would be the zippers. The zipper strength seems fine though I wonder at times when sitting in the hammock if too much stress is being put on the zippers. I don't like the zipper pull tabs. I am pretty sure they were picked to reduce weight so I cut some slack but I don't like the inside/outside semi-reversible pulls on them. I like that there are two pulls one to open and close that can be moved to either end of the "bag". I don't like that only the end of the zipper at the "foot" of the bag has slides for unhooking the zipper pulls from one side of the zipper "track". The "head" end of the bag has then velcro protective wrap for holding the bag together where the zipper gets to the end of the "track". That is OK but doesn't remove stress from the zipper. That end of the zipper track has zipper "stops" at the end of it keeping the zipper pulls attached to both ends of the "track". The best improvement that could be made to this item would be to change those to be slides like the other end of the zipper so that the zipper pulls could be removed from that end of the "track" as well. It would made it much easier to go from the simple hanging under quilt to the cocoon type hang while in the hammock. It would allow leaving the under attached while just sitting in it without putting stress on the zipper too. As it is, the only way to remove that extra stress and have it hang loosely is to unzip it to the foot of the bag which is a pain because you have to unhook the hammock and feed it thru or around the zipper pulls each time you change from one functionality to another instead of simply zipping/unzipping which could be done with slides on both ends of the zipper. The only other issue is with using the cocoon hanging method. If you have it hung up as an under quilt, it lifts the quilt from the around the zipper because that is where the attachment points are. The catch with that is that it also lifts the cocoon off of you when it is zipped. The cocoon would be much more effective if it fell down on top of you like a sleeping bag would. The issue is that disconnecting or loosening the under quilt suspension is challenging from inside the hammock. I would recommend some sturdy mitten clip style hooks for attaching the under quilt to the 1/8 elastic cord. The only other thing I can think of to improve how that hangs would be if the bag had additional attachment points lower on the sides. That way, the under quilt could stay lifted up and in position but the portion of the sides above those attachment points would be free to fall down on top of you keeping you extra comfortably warm. In around 20 degree temps, I would think that would probably be how it would need to be positioned for optimal warmth.Overall, this is a great product that I do not regret purchasing. I can just see a couple of things that could easily be changed to make this a truly exceptional item at a decent price.

Im a critic, but I like it.
UPDATE:I have used this hammock for most of the year now, and I can say with confidence that this quilt is a solid buy. Warbonnet had me convinced that an unzipped footbox was the way to go, but I LOVE the versatility of this system. I just used it this weekend down to 37 degrees, with no underquilt, just a thick foam pad underneath. I slept like a baby. At first i hated the green color, but since I sleep with it inside my warbonnet hammock, I actually like the high contrast. It helps to find the opening in the dark of night. I will say that because it is a zipper bottom, your feet are not so cleanly insulated like a traditional hammock system, and are more likely to get cold. I would definitely suggest either warm wool socks or an internal foot blanket for this setup.Oh, and the concern that I had with constantly catching the zipper on the material was not as big a problem as I projected. I barely ever have that issue. Ill be buying from OV again in the future.__________________________________ORIGINAL:I got this for my 6 year old's sleep system, just in time for this last weekend's over-nighter. I had it set up as a pod system, with her hammock bunk bed style over mine, with a tarp over both of us. The weather got down to a breezy 30 degrees at night.THE GOOD: One of the kids splashed water on it, and I was happy to see it bead and roll off as advertised. Also, she never complained once about the cold! This thing kept her WARM. We slept better than anyone else at camp! I was skeptical at first, because the down looks thin and didnt loft as much as I expected, but it worked well. I really like the stuff sack it came with, as it has a double-cinch system to really pack it tight. At first I wasn't a fan of the color, but I do like it after seeing it in person. Distinguishing the color from the hammock also is a good way to make sure your butt gets parked on the hammock and not the quilt. She really had fun zipping it all the way up, closing herself in it completely.THE BAD: Another reviewer complained about the inside zipper guard getting in the way and I have to agree. During the night, the zipper got stuck on the guard, and she had to go to the bathroom. NOT A GOOD SCENARIO. It was hard to un-jam, and led to a long string of cussing before it loosed. The zipper says YKK, but it really doesn't seem like a YKK zipper system. The zipper track feels cheap, and I would have paid more if it meant getting a good zipper... a foolish place to skimp. Im actually a bit concerned that a younger kid could get trapped inside; something to think about for you parents. I also forgot that her feet did feel cold at night, so I zipped a jacket around the foot end, which took care of it.OTHER THOUGHTS: Although it sounds like Im a heavy critic of this product, I'm mostly happy with it, and will be using it again. I may even attach my own button snaps to get around the zipper problem... we will see. Im liking this company so far, but hope they replace that zipper track and expand their products to include a wider variety of colors. I would love this company forever if they came out with Kryptek options :)

4.5/5 really, but still very worth it for the money.
It’s hard to beat this quilt for the money, but it’s not perfect. The good: The ability to zip up this quilt is a total game changer, often, no top quilt is needed and the temperature in the pod can be easily regulated. This quilt is made of down and is fairly warm and compressible. The price point is great, perfect for light weight backpacking on a budget. Their customer service is great, fast and congenial. The bag seems very durable and is backed by their lifetime warranty. The bad: The down used in the quilt is a little smelly, I’ve let the quilt air out a little over a week now and although the smell has gotten better, it’s still definitely there. I find the baffles to be a little large for how much down they are filled with, the down often settles to the bottoms of the baffles. Cold air definitely comes through the foot box area where the quilt wraps around the hammock. I might believe this is a 20 degree sleeping bag, but it’s definitely not a 20 degree sleeping pod for your hammock. Lastly, I got the black color way and honestly it looks just like a garbage bag, I’d recommend the green. The forgiveable: It seems that Outdoor Vitals has addressed most of these issues with their new mummypod design. I really think this brand has good intentions and deserves your investment.
