as good as it gets for a red dot..
Excellent red dot. Battery is common AA and solar takes over during the daylight. Heavy duty construction but you do need to order the EXPENSIVE flash guard for lens protection and better viewing. My only complaint is price, Eotech are cheaper and just as well built for about 1/2 cost. Otherwise you can't beat this red dot for field of view and dual power( batt/solar)performance.

sadly the reviews are true. i had so much hope.
i was so excited to get this item. i had read pretty much every review available of this item and was forewarned about the issues with the dot.... it's true. you can totally see the electronics reflecting onto the glass. i only noticed it indoors but for a $900 item anytime is too much.... returned it for an eotechotherwise this item is a TANK. i don't see any way it could break. if that one issue was fixed i'd buy another one in a second

A solid product by Trijicon...works as advertised.
I arrived home from work and found the cardboard box from Amazon on my front steps. I scooped it up and brought it inside. One minute later, with the help of a butter knife, I found the hard black plastic case inside with the Trijicon logo. I popped open the container and saw the squat, cold, ugly sight resting inside-I picked it up and marveled at its beauty. Every product has its good and bad points so I'll go through my observations on both.Good: The sight is a rugged piece of equipment that you can drop, hit against a concrete wall, or smash someone in the head with and you might scratch its flat black paint, but that's about it. The SRS is designed for military use in a hostile environment where fragile optics perish and the strong survive and in this area the SRS answers the mail. Also, the SRS has a reliable power source with the combination of a solar cell on the top of the sight and a single AA battery, which they advertise as lasting several years (we shall see-I have not had the SRS long enough to confirm this). There are multiple settings for light intensity from very low (which is only visible with NVGs) to very bright, so you can adjust it to whatever light conditions you find yourself in. Importantly, you can rapidly acquire your target with the SRS as the sight opening is large enough and the overall length short enough that as soon as you place the SRS in line with the target and your eyeball, pull the trigger because the red dot is on target. Finally, the SRS mounts easily and securely to my rifle which has a picatinny style rail. Once I zeroed the SRS, it stayed on target so I had confidence in it maintaining its accuracy.Bad: If you are concerned with price, it is expensive compared to an Aimpoint or Eotech, but I would argue the features and ruggedness included with the SRS is what you are paying for. The SRS is heavy, which is another price of being so rugged-you can't have it both ways. The SRS optic has been criticized for showing a small circuit panel reflection around the actual red dot in certain light conditions. I did notice this when the red dot was at its highest intensity but it did not bother me and I actually liked it because it helped to frame the target with the red dot positioned squarely in the middle of it.This is a rugged piece of equipment that works as advertised. If reliability in a hostile environment is your goal, look no further. If you want something less expensive, a little lighter, and a different red dot design, try the short body Eotech.

One Star for the SRS. Five Stars Because Trijicon Did Stand Behind Their Warranty
I purchased one of these new. It failed so I sent it back in for warranty repair. They were unable to repair the unit so they replaced it after several months. Two years later the optic once again failed and I sent it for warranty repair. After several months I was informed that they could not repair the unit and that they had discontinued the unit and would not be able to replace it. Their solution was to offer a 30% discount on a future Trijicon purchase. Their warranty clearly states Repair or Replace for the original owner. A discount off a future purchase leaves me with nothing. No repair, no replacement, no substitution of a comparably priced item? This optic's failure is 100% related to manufacturing and engineering flaws. There is a reason why they are no longer manufacturing it. The fact that they will not stand behind their warranty on an item that retailed for almost $1K new is unconscionable. After doing a fair amount of research online this is not an isolated incident with Trijicon. BUYER BEWARE.UPDATED REVIEW 04/26/2020:Trijicon ended up doing the right thing and offered me a replacement that was ultimately worth more and was an upgrade to this item. My faith has been restored.
