Brilliant
Grabbed the 512 GB SSD card out of my dead Yoga 900 laptop, screwed it into this little contraption and, Hey Presto! - I have an instant Half-TB back-up card. Not to mention it was really easy to get all the stuff off the dead laptop onto my new replacement. Just be careful you get the right flavor of this device for your particular SSD card. The documentation on the product helps with this, as well as several online videos I found helpful.

What goes out, isn't what goes in...
So I ordered this to recover data files from my non-NVME samsung M.2 SATA III SSD.Read about the heat being a potential issue so I bought the thinnest (2mm + 3mm) heat sinks that seemed like it would fit inside. But be warned, as sliding the reader out of its aluminum shell and putting it back are 2 entirely different concepts. For some reason the aluminum shell implodes once you take it out, and will have to either forcefully reshape it (e.g, heat and pliers) or jam it in there and hope nothing breaks. If not, the shell will snag at every extruding component of the reader regardless of whether was an SSD in there or not.Perhaps this is defective, and people don't have this problem, but I 'd rather not risk damaging my SSD card by putting it inside a shell that isn't capable of housing its own components. That said, the reader is sitll usable outside of it's shell, but should be done in a controlled environment with someone who knows what they're doing since heat dissipation, dirt, and other factor s come into play since you took the turtle out of its shell

I prefer the “tool-free” enclosures
I won’t buy this style of enclosure again, with the tiny screws. Maybe it’s just me, but I struggle with those microscopic screws! I returned this item and found one that is “tool free” which has a simple latch to open the enclosure.

Excellent Product
I purchased the Crucial MX500 500GB 3D NAND SATA M.2 Type 2280SS Internal SSD - CT500MX500SSD4 in order to increase my already maxed-out 256GB SSD.I first installed the MX500 in this external M.2 USB adapter, then loaded the FREE Acronis True Image software on my laptop via the provided Weblink – surprisingly, this FREE software is included with the MX500. Using the “Clone Disk” option, it took about 15 minutes for the contents of my 256GB SSD to be copied to the new drive.I installed the MX500 in my laptop and started it and the laptop ran as before, but now I had 500GB (well really ~475GB) of total space. It couldn’t be simpler.I used this adapter for the initial transfer – it is very well made and worked perfectly. In addition, I now have a great 256GB SSD external drive (using the new external adapter). My configuration:Dell Latitude E727016GB RAMUpdated with MX500 = 500GB SSD (Original SSD = 256GB)

Turns my old M.2 drive into an external drive
I purchased this to accommodate the old M.2 SSD drive that came out of my laptop, when I replaced it with a larger M.2. My plan was to use this to clone the OS onto the new drive, but I ultimately just decide to use my recovery flash drive to do a clean install of Windows 10. So now I used this enclosure with my old M.2 SSD as an external drive for my laptop. I thought the quality of the enclosure was good, it is well made, but I had an issue with the price so I knocked off 1-star. I paid $19.99 for mine. I have purchased 2.5" enclosures in the past and they are half the price of this one for the M.2. IMO, there's no reason for this to be twice the price. But, overall, it did what it was designed to do and I'm satisfied with it.

Super simple to to install
For the price, this was a great purchase. The enclosure is exactly what I wanted, very slim, sturdy aluminum case & lightweight. Make absolutely certain your SSD matches the enclosure description. I had to look at dozens of m.2 enclosures to find one for B&M key SSD.I have an Acer Aspire 5 A515-52-526C. I replaced the m.2 SATA SSD with a PCIe m.2. I put the old m.2 in the enclosure so I could use it for external storage.Easy to disassemble & insert SSD. They even included a tiny screwdriver and extra screws. The USB cable and USB-C adapter were included which saved me from making additional purchases.Be careful, as with any very small enclosures, the case will get hot. There is an air gap between the SSD & case, it isn't a heatsink. The case cools very quickly once unplugged from the computer.CON: This unit does have an activity LED but, the light is mounted too far into the enclosure to be useful.
