Fake Books have been around for at least 90 years and used by professional musicians all over the world. Hal Leonard Music has "rounded up" virtually the entire collection of these fake books, acquired publishing rights, and taken care of copyright issues to make the books legal to sell and use. These legal "fake books" have been professionally re-engraved so that they are very legible, and yet they maintain the look and feel of the original fake books. They also include lyrics, which were usually unavailable in the original books. The binding is very sturdy. Pages lay flat and the songs are organized in alphabetical order. If you prefer a digital version, most books are also available in Kindle format.Fake books are less appropriate for amateur and trained musicians who normally use detailed sheet music that is intended to be played exactly as written. Typically, these books contain a single treble-clef staff that displays a simple, single-note melody line, with chord symbols above and lyrics below. They are better suited to improvisation, where a creative musician can interpret chord symbols and melody, and transform them into an original performance that sounds great. Most books are available for "C" instruments such as piano and organ, as well as transposed versions for Bb and Eb instruments. I own most of the jazz books, two pop books and a country book and the quality is exceptionally good in all of them

I own several of the Real Pop Series (jazz, rock, country, pop), this Volume 2 Real Pop Book is one of my favorite. This book has the lyrics as well as the melody and chords (wish all the Real Books had lyrics!), and has a lot of the more current pop tunes, as well as some older ones. This book has some songs that are 3 pages long or more, so you have to turn pages more than some of the other Real books while playing, but somewhat necessary with some of today's songs to avoid a lot of confusing repeats and codas. This book will keep me busy a long time, hope they create a Volume 3 Pop book in the near future like this one! Highly recommend this book if you like pop!

Really great addition to the practice and jamming/performance library. Was delivered promptly and in new condition. Very well laid out with a good variety of charts. A must for the artist who wants to expand their repertoire.

Not as detailed as the real rock books. "Let's dance" doesn't have upper chord extensions nor does it spell the bass hook. " I will survive" in the real rock book even has the trumpet melody, way better than the pop series.

Edit: after spending more time with this book, everything is multiple pages and frankly unusable as a real book. None of these songs are complex enough to justify that. The songs are accurate but it fails at the real book format. I'm very disappointed.The two things that immediately stand out are (1) this is the most contemporary selection of songs of any of the rock and pop real books (2) the transcriptions are ridiculously long to the point of unusable.I use this for site reading and anything that is 3 pages is not usable. This stretches simple ABABCAB pop songs out to 3 pages regularly. Uptown Funk has 2 chords and a lot of the melody is non-tonal notes notated with x's - and it has 3 pages!!! These are starting to feel not like Real Books anymore and more like fake book genre.Other than that, it is the most contemporary selection of songs in any Real Book I have. And it beats looking the songs up online or figuring them out from scratch. There is quite a bit of overlap with the Real Rock books and the Real R&B Book. The selection is worth it though.
