This design of work pants/shorts is made by a ton of different brands with slightly different designs and varying degrees of quality. I'm not in law enforcement, but I work in a mental hospital, where part of my job is controlling violent patients. These shorts (and the long pants of the same design) are the best for the job. The huge rear slash pockets are ideal for storing a supply of exam gloves, always a necessity. The D-ring holds my keys securely and conveniently. All of the pockets are sturdy and roomy. I don't have a use for the cell phone pocket or the tactical strap, and prefer to keep my pens in my shirt pocket instead of the one provided in the shorts, but they're there if you want them. The fit is good and they are comfortable and non-binding, even in the most demanding physical situations. They are also sturdy enough to stand up to those situations, due to the fabric and the triple closure as well as the stitching. They also look good enough that I don't mind wearing them as casual shorts.

To be honest, I truly appreciate the pant version, since I wore them for over 15 years at work and now wear them at my retirement job. I got tired of paying high prices for inferior name brand shorts and low prices for inferior cargo shorts at the big box type stores, I have loved these cargo/tactical shorts. The deep rear pockets are nice. I have them in black, the brown and gray. They have lasted over 4 years. Even my wife was impressed as they held their color and look good with a Tee, camp shirt or flannel. I appreciate the flex waistband, as my weight fluctuates at my age during BBQ seasons and holidays. They are even nicer during Amazon Prime sales events.

I wear these shorts for work and they have held up so much better than other products. I am beyond pleased with them and especially the comfort. I highly recommend

I purchased the 5.11 11- inch taclite shorts in dark navy as a bike uniform for work. The shorts are well made and have plenty of pockets that are very deep. The shorts have an elastic waist that make them very comfortable. I purchased a size 36 as that is the size of my waste but I found the thigh area to be a tad tight. So I exchanged them for a 38 and they fit perfect. One awesome thing about the shorts is they repel water. If you spray them with a water bottle the water just falls right off. I am 6'3'' 215 and the shorts come down to just about the middle of my knee cap.

Great shorts overall. They fit well. True to size, with a bit of stretch in the waist. Love the extra belt loops which have plenty of room for my usual 1.75" wide belt. The front of these design wise, and the belt loops in front are well placed for carrying my (licensed) carry pistol.The smaller flapped pocket on the front left side is actually big and deep enough for most hand gun magazines. Love the reinforced corners on the front pockets. If you've ever had the pocket clip on your knives wear your pocket corners to shreds, you will too!My only slight gripe is the pictured pull me off the ground (?) strap over the right rear pocket. I have no idea what it could actually be used for and it gets in the way of reaching for your wallet. I carefully cut this strap off.

These are AWESOME shorts. I bit pricey but well worth the extra money. They keep you cool, protected from the sun, and repel water easily. My first day out with these was an all day (over 6 hours of walking) tour in Israel. The back pockets are great for small water bottles and the front pockets keep your worries away of pickpockets (the shorts are slash resistant). I've worn them now about ten times in various situations and they also pass off as "nice" shorts (say for golfing or casual business lunch). As for CCW, perfect for pocket carry.Some others items of note (more of personal advice)....the front left velcro pocket is not big enough for most cell phones. i have a Z3 Compact which is a perfect fit. Anything bigger than like an iPhone 5 might not fit and definitely not close the velcro pocket. The front right pocket is NOT big enough for a US Passport but is perfect for your credit cards, money, IDs (1/2" wider would've been perfect). The shorts could be 3-4 inches shorter, great for walking but probably not for hiking. Figure out your exact waist size then get 1 size bigger in the shorts....you'll appreciate the extra room (plus there's belt loops).

These shorts fit great on me. There are some complaints that they ride too high or they're "hip huggers", but I guess this really depends on your body type. They ride a tad higher than conventional shorts, but these are tactical shorts designed to carry many items including holsters for sidearms and I found this to be a non issue. The quality is superb. They are easy to clean. My favorite features are the reinforced pocket openings for knife clips, the rear slash pockets (which are now my favorite design for a rear pocket. you can even slip a small water bottle in them and it rides more on your side than on your rear end), the front dedicated knife pocket and the front flap pocket. The front flap pocket is a good size to accommodate larger smart phones. I do quite a bit of bird watching so this pocket is really handy. I just tuck the flap inside the pocket and slip my iPhone in. Now I have quick access to my phone to record a sighting, drop it back in and keep going. These are my go to shorts for hiking as well.

Love these shorts they are as tough as it gets

I love the 5.11 Taclite pants, This is my first pair of Taclite shorts - they are every bit as good as the pants. They fit as expected and have the perfect balance for me of wear resistance / toughness without feeling heavy. Of course - needless to say, but I'll say it, no knee pad insert pockets on the shorts like the pants have.

I only started buying 5.11 Tactical earlier this year. They are strong and reliable. So much so I now own 4 pairs + these to. As I am disabled I need clothing that takes punishment. This brand does that and loads more. Highly recommended.
