Awesome Volume, with a Sliding Cover
These JBL OnTour speakers are awesome. I can power them by an AC Adapter for 4 AAA batteries. The design of these speakers is simple yet elegant. A white slide back cover protects the speakers when they are not in use - and this cover along with the hard plastic case provides some drop protection. Although I have never dropped mine, I am just going by their design. These speakers pack a punch; even on their lowest volume, they are clear and crisp. At higher levels, they would probably blow out a 15x15 room with no problem. They have a rich sound with deep bass and nice treble. I am continually amazed at the sound that comes out of these speakers. The bass is rich and deep. I simply cannot believe that they are so small and pack such a punch. The treble is as good as the bass - I can hear the high tones as well as the bass. At even the highest volume there is no rattle in the speakers - I assume that is the JBL quality at work. With the cover closed, the unit is about 7 inches in length, 3 1/2 inches wide and 1 3/8 of an inch deep at the arch of the curve on these speakers. With the cover open, it is 5 1/4 inches wide. When the cover is closed, there is a small square cutout where the JBL logo shows through from inside the cover. On the bottom is the compartment for the 4 AAA batteries. It is somewhat difficult to open. I have to press the latch and supposedly, the cover comes off, but I always have to stick my fingernail between the cover and the unit to get it open.On the inside, there are two round speakers on these JBLs. Each is approximately 3/4 of an inch in diameter, including the surrounding silver molding type strip. In the middle is the JBL logo you can also see from outside the unit when it is closed. The speakers have 2 buttons to the far left at the top and the bottom of the unit; it also has 2 LED lights in between the two buttons. I can press either button to turn it on. To turn the speakers, I have to press both buttons at the same time - and this can be an undertaking. I usually have to use 1 finger from each hand to get the unit to turn off; otherwise, I am too clumsy to get it turned off with 2 fingers from the same hand.I have had these speakers for over 7 years and they sound as good today as the day I purchased them. These are high quality, exceptionally sounding speakers.

Untraditional User.
These speakers a great for a small bedroom or office. They are not loud but have great sound quality, bass and trebble. Plus, they look really cool and are great on the go, with the pouch. I am notoriously particular about my ipod, my earphones, sound quality, all that stuff and I purchased these speakers just as another toy to go with my ipod. I'm from New York City and only use my car on the weekends for long trips. My tape deck broke so I use them in the car with my ipod and they are perfect. The batteries last about 12 hours on their own, which is better than I thought and I turn the volume all the way up. Otherwise I just use them in my bed room and they are perfect. Nothing special but worth the money.

Great Sound from a Small Package
The sound from these speakers is amazing. Obviously they wont replace your home theatre but in my opinion, they give a lot of computer speakers a run for their money. The sound is not tinny at all but is clear and strong and the get loud without distortion. When you first turn it on it is hard to believe that that much sound is coming from them. They get pretty loud too. Enough to fill even a large room, but small enough to fit in your bookbag. The design is good too because it can use batteries or the included ac adapter so you always have a way to power it up. It folds nicely, and has a cover to put it in that it is protected. Its a sin not to take it wherever you travel to. The workmanship is top notch and doesnt feel the least bit cheap. Good power saving abilities (auto shut off) and volume control on the unit. For seventy bucks its a good price here on amazon as they are going for 100 or more in retail stores. The bad thing is that it sometimes closes too easily but it isn't a big deal. Pick it up, you wont be disappointed.

Don't Waste Your Money
I bought the JBL Ontour Portable Speaker System for outdoor use for BBQ, beach, camping, etc. What I discovered was that this item is was not designed for outdoor use. The volume on these speakers is extremely low. I tried them outdoors and could barely hear the music standing three feet away with both my MP3 Player and the speakers on full volume. I had this probelm with the speakers powered by both battery and A/C adaptor. Also, I have read other reviews that have said how good the sound quality is on these speakers. I was less then impressed. Although as I did mention earlier I had both my MP3 player and the speakers on full volume which does distort the sound a bit. I quickly disconected the speaker and hooked it up to my car for the remainder of the tailgate party I was at. I got better sound quality and volume by playing my MP3 player through my car stereo. I will be returning this item.

Too Small
Do not be deceived by the photo this thing is tiny. If that is what you are looking very small low volume very portable I suppose it is ok but over price for what you get. I think $30.00 would have been about right. There is no bass response and for there size how could there be. I am keeping them but only because they are so small they might come in handy for hotel use only! The packaging is very cool but the fidelity is non existent.
