Innovation and tradition share equally deep roots at SCARPA, a muti-generational, family-owned business whose headquarters and manufacturing facilities are in the same region of northern Italy where it was founded in 1938. SCARPA builds performance footwear for climbing, hiking, skiing, mountaineering, trail-running and other outdoor pursuits. Aside from being the Italian word for "shoe," SCARPA is an acronym for Societa Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima (Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area).

The perfect dry weather off-trail lightweight hiking shoe
I rarely take the time to give reviews but I am so impressed with these shoes I thought it would be worth my time to share my thoughts. I have been on the hunt for lightweight hiking shoes for the Sierra High Route later this summer (the SHR is mostly off trail). Last summer I did the John Muir Trail and used a pair of ultra trail running shoes that worked perfectly, they were light and extremely comfortable so I would use them again if I thought they would work well off trail. I have spent countless hours looking for the perfect lightweight shoes for the SHR, I've gone to many outdoor stores to try on shoes and I've ordered shoes from Europe but the only shoe to meet just about all of my requirements was the Scarpa Rapid LT. I was specifically looking for a shoe that was lightweight and extremely comfortable but solid enough to handle over a hundred miles of off trail hiking and third class passes. Since I am going to be in the Sierras in late summer I have no need for goretex, breathability is more important. I am very impressed with this shoes technical ability while being extremely comfortable. Since getting the shoes in the mail, they have become my daily trainers. I have had no blisters or any hotspots. I will give another report once I finish the SHR!

I would have expected them to last longer.
I purchased these shoes a little over a year ago. Unfortunately after less than a year of daily use (only worn as a daily shoe for spring & fall seasons) and less than half a dozen or so day hikes, the rubber/ tread is worn nearly bare in some spots and some seams in the rubber are coming unglued. Otherwise these shoes have been very comfortable and supportive for moderate hikes. I'm somewhat hesitant to purchase another pair of Scarpa's in the future. I would have expected them to last longer.

More orange than the pics actually show.
The picture of these shoes looks more yellow than the actual orange colorvthey are. These Scarpa shoes look great and feel fantastic, I cant wait to put some miles on them. The laces are pretty short just barley long enough to tie them up. If these shoes can hold up and last I would buy definitely buy another pair. We will see.

Too small
Too small than normal good material nonetheless. I sent it back.

Great shoes for "urban hiking"
Great shoes for "urban hiking". It's funny because people are will to pay through the nose for gear that is focused on their recreational activity. Why not do the same for day to day use? Honestly, why not buy a nice pair of kicks for walking around all day? I'm very pleased with this purchase. The sole is firm and the support is outstanding. They are a fitted shoe and may be a touch narrow if you have a wide foot. My foot is narrow in the arch and wider in the toe box. These work great.

I saw great reviews and when I received the shoes
I saw great reviews and when I received the shoes, I was excited to start hiking. These are not cheap shoes and I wanted to buy a pair of shoes that would do more than just last as long as my 6 month trip through Southeast Asia. They were great shoes and I only wore them about 35% or less, of the time on my trip because I was usually in my flip-flops. Well towards the end of my trip the shoes came to the end of their life span. Seams were opening up, the soles of the shoes began falling apart. I was very upset because of the reputation these shoes had, because they are nothing special, I just thought that Id have them for a while. I defiantly wouldn't recommend these shoes and won't buy them again. I gave them more than one star because I liked them while they were wearable....

Great-fitting and durable shoes. Of course, the fit ...
Great-fitting and durable shoes. Of course, the fit depends on your foot- I have high arch and wide ball, and these fit perfectly. Only drawback is the length of the shoelaces. too short.Updated and dropped my rating from a 5 to a 3 because these shoes just seem so darn hot in the toebox/front of the shoe. Otherwise durable and very comfortable. Being active while hiking or whatever- it is not pleasant to have your feet overheat.

UPDATE after >1 year
Got these shoes, and was not sure what to think after reading some Amazon reviews- but I love them! I like the 'snug & secure' fit, and that's what these shoes are. Bought them for an upcoming contract in Tanzania, I'll update this review when I return regarding how they hold up.UPDATEThese were my first scarpa shoes. I have worn these shoes almost daily for the past year, and have been my only shoes in Tanzania, Tajikistan and now Afghanistan. They have been with me on hikes, in remote villages, in airports, in the office... Everywhere. I have loved these shoes! After 1 year of wear and tear, I've thought about getting another pair. I'm totally sold on Scarpa. However, after some consideration, I've decided to opt for the Mojitos. I pack light, and they are a little more office friendly.See the photos after 1 year of daily use.
