Descent (The Immortal Chronicles Book 1)

Amazing book for fans of paranormal romance!
I have always been a big fan of Paranormal stories but not so much a fan of young adult books but I was enticed by this books beautiful cover and I was so intrigued by the blurb that I had to read it. Once I picked up this book I just got so engrossed in this wonderful world of Fae and Vampyrs that live in harmony with humans that Sloane Murphy has created. Our heroine Addie is not only a smart young woman she is a strong willed well developed character that I loved as soon as we met her. She spends years at the Academy fighter training and studying to become part of the Red Guard that has never had a woman as a member before. As the story progresses she goes on a journey of self discovery and loss while also learning to trust others when finding out that everything that she thought she knew isn't what it seems. Xander Bane is a hot brooding Vampyer and leader at the Academy that has hidden feelings about Addie, he also holds secrets about her that he cannot reveal as he swore an oath. He watches over Addie and together they try to fight against the darkness. This story had me on the edge of my seat from the many twists and turns that get thrown at Addie as she begins to find her way in the world she lives in. This is great writing from a debut author and nothing like I would have expected to find when I started this book. Sloane Murphy has a remarkable talent for taking you along on an adventure with her characters, making you believe in them and all the emotions that they feel while facing whatever life has in store for them. I'm so invested in this story that I can't wait to read the next book in this amazing series. I have also learned from reading this book that I should maybe read more books in this genre of YA that I could be missing out on some great stories.A brilliant 5 Stars!

What a way to start!!!
Where do i start? I've had Descent on my TBR list for a while now, but i just never seemed to get round to reading it. Now I have, Finally!!I finished reading this at 1.20am on February 15th on my break at work and I was genuinely disappointed that I didn't have book 2 to continue with straight away. Anyways I digress... back to my review...Descent is written in dual POV. It goes between Addie and Xander. Each chapter is clearly labelled so there is no confusion at any point. I really enjoyed the dual POV, I thought it added more depth to the overall story.I found the characters to be well developed and realistic too; well as real as a Vampyr can be. They are not portrayed to be perfect, they have their flaws which helps with the realism of them. The bad guys play their roles well and I found that I both loved and hated them for it.Addie is a very determined young woman, she has her dream of being in the Red Gaurd and is hell vent on proving herself more than capable; even though no females have ever been in the Red Guard before.Xander is a Vampyr who is trying to keep his real feelings hidden and also trying to protect Addie. Xander knows more than he is letting on about Addie, I can't help but wonder if this will eventually come back and bite him on the ass though!!The plot is enjoyable, easy to become immersed in and holds you captive until the end, where your left wanting more. I felt completely surrounded by Addie, Xander and their feelings throughout. Just when I thought I was starting to figure out where we were heading, BAM, I would encounter another little twist/turn that I hadn't expected.Descent has action, romance, humour and plot twists throughout, and Yes there is a cliffhanger ending!!For me this was a great starting point, and I for one am hooked! I cannot wait to start book 2!!

I have a love for all things Paranormal, supernatural, dystopian, in particular all things Vampyr related, think twilight, blade, the vampire diaries you have my niche. So imagine my delight when handed a book that had it all, humans, Vampyrs, Fae, and things that go bump in the night. based in a world that co-exsists in peace but is likely to crumble. I'm going to jump on that, whats not to like right ?With an open mind and, I opened the book and wow was I surprised at how easily I feel into this world and how easily I feel for the characters, in particular the leads. You'll see why and one is very easy to love. This book flawed me, considering this is by a debut author, the creativity flowed of the page and and the characters seamlessly jumped out and worked so well with strong development and a well thought out story line and plot. The twist and turns throughout this book had me guessing what was going on and caught me out with emotion on a couple of occasions that i didn't see coming. watching the story unfold with all the half truths, deceit and lies leaking out to play havoc with the work that Addie thought she new was so cleverly intertwined and all interlinked in its dual POV with Xander that you will want to know more.Addie is strong and kick ass and has attitude in abundance, but she has compassion and understanding all wrapped up into one. Xander is Strong and powerful and all consume, but brooding and sexy as hell. The supporting cast is amazing and whether you love the like D or you loathe them this book is worth every invested minute. The moment it started, it was finished and that ending i was left wanting more.Book two is out in the winter of 2016, I know thats not that far away, but really it is....... this is series that I know will rival others in this genre for me, and for that my hat is off to you Sloane.5 Amazing Stars
