Nice series but a little bit biased…
This is a fine, well-put-together series for every history buff. However, Roberts' portrayal of Napoleon as being a hero of the French Revolution and a soldier of Enlightenment who didn't want to antagonize other nations are blantantly silly in the light of his massacres, plunderings, dictatorship and founding his own imperial dynasty, putting nearly all his relatives in various thrones around Europe (his elder brother Joseph made a mess out of Spain). Certainly Napoleon was not the monster as his enemies described him, but he was ruthless and murderously ambitious nonetheless. The narrative and the optical material of the series is very interesting, with Roberts posing many times on the actual sites where Napoleon built his career and reputation. I would have preferred a longer, more comprehensive account of this huge subject.
