I own 4 of these-
Yes, I own 4 of these. I also own several Sunto, Silva and Bruntons. These are a very good value for the money. They are not for creating new maps or even following extremely exacting lines. They are inexpensive very lightweight hiking/camping/driving approaches that supplement your smart phones loss of GPS in some areas.I recommend learning basic orienteering, it is essential to using a compass without a map. Again, if you can carry a topographical map of the area you are hiking in along with a true mapping compass do so! However, if you understand direction finding and how essential a compass can be even in a desert with no trees, this is a solid buy.I purchased 4 to be able to match them against each other and see if they had major deviations from each other.I try to do this for every review. *multiple items*Here are the positives.1. Very light weight2. Includes thermometer *which is accurate*3. Accurate, each of mine were accurate. Not the easiest to read, but accurate.4. Quite durably built5. Again, easy to carry and have with you all the timeCons-1. not the easiest to read2. Must hold absolutely flat, or the needle gets hung up!Recommendation?Buy several.I've camped, backpacked, hiked and hunted on two continents and in every type of terrain available from South America through Canada and in between. I live in Arizona, close to major mining, lots of high mineral content in our local rocks! These work fine.Get a couple!

Do not buy. Cheaper than a kids toy from a 25 cent vending machine. Buy a better product and hope it's not your last resort if lost in the woods.

Accurate and Handy Inexpensive 'Recreational' Compass!
The compass dial (rose) is marked in 6 degree increments; its easy to read, and the see-through dial is great for aligning on map grid lines. After orienting the compass rose to True North, and checking the current declination of +15.2 degrees for our area in Oregon, the magnetic compass needle correctly points to 'magnetic' North at approx +15.2 degrees East. The thermometer is very small and does not work; it hasn't moved from 72F (as shown in pics) since taking it out of the box, regardless of being inside the house or outside in 40 degree weather. However, I bought this inexpensive compass for the convenience of a clip-on 'recreational' (non-critical direction finding) hiking compass... and it will work accurately enough for that.I would have given this compass 5 stars (for accuracy, value, and convenience) if the device did not have the thermometer. Since it has this faulty feature, I felt it appropriate to give the device a lower rating. In my opinion, the manufacturer would be wise to eliminate the thermometer and replace it with a simple and useful static rose indicating the cardinal directions. This would likely eliminate most of the negative feedback submitted about this handy little compass.

Great Gift
I bought these for my daughters friends for over the summer. This compass along with a backpack, journal, writing/drawing pens and a beach towel. I thought this would be an ideal purchase so that they may find their way home after their travels. A little corny but all around fun.

Defective product
The thermometer is impossibly small and even with great eyesight I have to squint to see the numbers, plus it looks to be broken anyways and is stuck at right around 80. The compass is also not a “quick glance” item and can be hard to read especially since the silver ring just freely spins around. No good, don’t bother.

Nice design but not functional
This hadn't worked as a compass or thermometer for me.I live in a very mountain terrain area so it's easy for me to find my directions when I'm not deep in the mountain areas. I have plenty of thermometers to verify accuracy.I had hoped that this would be true, as the design is nice but it isn't functional for my in mountain hiking needs.I do like the design, and clip
