Slasher: Season 1 [Blu-ray]

Love Actress Katie McGrath
I love the actress Katie McGrath. It is hard to find movies or tv series she is in. I loved her in A Princess for Christmas (a.k.a Christmas at castlebury hall) that aired on the Hallmark Channel. Since than I have seen her in the updated, short-lived (only 1 season) tv series Dracula (also starring Tudors tv series actor Jonathan Rhyce Myers) where she was cast as Lucy (Mina's best friend). Now, she is the title character, Sarah, in the tv series "Slasher". Sarah's parents were murdered and she was literally ripped out of her mother's womb - what a graphic, gruesome, blood curdling way for a new life to be born and must leave scars on one's psyche regardless of how strong someone's character development is. I have not seen it in its entirety yet but the first episode certain leaves a lasting impact and I know I will not be disappointed because she is that good of an actress...By the way...I researched and found out that season 2 of the "Slasher" series revolves around a summer camp murder so although the series is still ongoing (season 3 has been announced as a go) it looks like the storyline changes every season like the American Horror Story (AHS) tv series storyline. So I am hopeful that the season 1 storyline will have a satisfactory conclusion and no cliffhanger but since I have yet to watch the series I cannot say that with utmost certainty. Still if you are a fan of Katie McGrath there are few movies and series out there so I am grateful for any chance to see her perform her craft. Hopeful for more chances to watch Katie McGrath in the future.

Not bad but not great
It was okay. Not bad but not great. The concept was good but it wasn't executed that well. And the climax has clinched and done before. It almost made no sense.

A missed Opportunity
Being a big horror fan, I was really looking forward to this series. Also being a big fan of the slasher genre in particular, I thought that a T.V. show called "Slasher" was going to be great, but all in all this show turned out to be a big disappointment.Slasher, for all it's faults, starts pretty well as we witness the gruesome murder of a couple at Halloween in the 80's by a masked killer that comes to be known as "The Executioner". The story continues in the present day following the daughter of the murdered pair arriving back to the town where she was born to live in the same house that her parents were murdered in. Soon a new Executioner starts killing again as punishment for the seven deadly sins.I'll start with the good parts about Slasher. The Executioner is great, he/she looks cool and some of the kills are suitably gory. Now the bad parts. The story is filled with plot holes, some terrible writing and a mixed cast, some hit the mark and some miss spectacularly. While some of the acting is terrible, unfortunately one of the worst is the main heroine. She simply could not maintain the Canadian/American accent that she was trying to put on at all, to the point that in some scenes she simply didn't bother. To top it all off, her character is thoroughly annoying, arrogant and stupid and I felt pretty much no sympathy at all for her. Sidney Prescott she is not! The show is actually better when she isn't in any of the scenes. Unfortunately the story isn't much better and ends up being pretty boring for the most part. But lets be honest, in the slasher genre bad acting and a silly story aren't really important as long as the horror is on point right? Well that's where it gets really disappointing. Apart from the first episode or two and the last one, there really isn't much horror to write home about. The executioner barely appears for a minute or two in each of the rest of the episodes and the kills are pretty tame and boring and for the most part fairly bloodless. For a show called "Slasher", the director actually cuts away at a scene of a throat slashing. There is also very little tension built up at all.To sum up, this series is okay, but will probably disappoint most horror fans. It may interest people who like a murder mystery but even that is lukewarm and poorly written. For me it was a big missed opportunity!

Great TV series about people getting killed off by a masked killer known as the executioner
The series begins at Halloween in 1988, when a pregnant mother and her husband are killed by a masked killer known as the executioner. The baby Sarah Bennet was saved and we jump forward to the present, where it all began in the fictional town of Waterbury. However, the killer whom murdered Sarah Bennet's parents is in prison, the killings begin again, and we have a copycat killer whom is punishing people for their sins. So in each episode people are killed, and its pretty gory in places, especially the first and last episodes. I really enjoyed this Canadian horror TV series, and liked the killer revealed at the end, which not what I was expecting. Although it doesn't offer anything new, people being killed on Halloween, or killed for the 7 deadly sins, its a shame that it was 8 episodes long. It is definitely up there with the 2009 slasher TV series Harper's Island, except Slasher is much more violent and gory. I look forward to the second season, which strangely is not available in the UK yet on DVD, despite it being broadcast in 2018 on freeview channel Pick.

He's Behind You
Sarah Bennett's return to her hometown sparks off a series of gruesome murders that bear all the hallmarks of her parents' murders 25 years earlier. Sounds intriguing, right? And it is. "Slasher" is fun, gripping, spooky and well-crafted.....right up until the last two episodes, where it goes AWOL with lame plotting and overcooked dramatics. Performances are pretty solid on the whole, though Katie McGrath is a mediocre actress who lacks conviction in some of the more perilous scenes, plus her accent routinely slips. Dean Mcdermott and Patrick Garrow both have juicy roles as cop and convicted murderer respectively, and special mention should go to Hannah Endicott-Douglas who gives a lovely performance in her limited screen time as an abducted teen."Slasher" is well filmed in that slick, glossy tv show kind of way and does keep the viewer guessing as to the identity of the killer known affectionately as "The Executioner". Unfortunately, as is often the case, when he/she is unmasked, it's all a bit underwhelming, plus there are some gaping plot-holes that you could plunge a machete through. For instance, why is Sarah allowed to tag along to various arrests? Why are there only about three cops working a serial murder case? Worst of all, how the hell does the killer know all the victims deep dark secrets? These shortcomings hamper what is otherwise a pretty entertaining ride.

Enjoyable horror/thriller
Thoroughly enjoyed this !Despite some of the negative reviews including some which make reference to the female lead having a large watch ?? Really. The lead lady is not the greatest actress in the world but she is far from the worst and gives a performance that is ok and does not detract from the show. This is well worth viewing as it offers something a little different from the mainstream horror shows, which have been released in the past few years
