Abus Brake disc lock Granit Detecto X Plus 8077, red

easy to use, works great, no false alarms, but move the bike and alarm goes off as it should. strong lock mechanism and heavy duty steel, yet not so heavy to keep around on the motorcycle on day trips and overnight. From my opinion, better than lugging around a heavy chain and lock.

After getting an Abus heavy-duty chain cut through overnight, we added this to our small electric moped kept outside. While the moped does have disc brakes, the design is such that it won't fit through the holes in the disc and hence must go on the front wheel. So the pin size and gap size on the device have to be double checked against your vehicle's brakes/wheels/space around the discs. However, for us it works effectively there, too, and in combination with an even heavier/hardened chain it's already deterred someone who came back a few nights later to try again.The device itself is a testy little punk, exactly as it should be. If someone brushes against your vehicle while getting their bike out of a rack it's probably not going off; your neighbors won't hate you. But anything more than that and it gets properly cranky. Definitely have to put it on last and take it off first, being quick with your key.Is it bombproof? I don't know; someone somewhere has probably figured out how to jack anything. But it makes sense for our apartment living, as the noise matters and it also keeps someone from rolling off with the moped if they manage to get through the chain or rack.

Not much to say about the Detecto X Plus other than it works as intended at securing my BMW at my apartments parking garage. The alarm is very loud and would defiantly scare off a would be thief if it were to go off. Its very solid and has some heft to it, if you were to carry it around with you in a backpack you'd defiantly feel it. An Issue I had was that because of it's larger size vs other Abus disk locks it wasn't able to place it on the back wheel. Not a deal breaker by any means, but just something to note.

I've been using this on my R1200GS for a few months now. It's quite sturdy, clearly visible to would be thieves (including the LED that blinks every several seconds), alarm is quite audible (can hear it up the block and from my 3rd-floor apartment), and not too difficult to install/remove.However, the coding on the alarm has one baffling flaw. When the lock senses that it has been installed, it arms itself within 5 seconds. As I said, this lock is not too difficult to put into place, however it does take some adjusting at times to get it into position, especially when used with a safety cable (which you should always use as a backup, even though the alarm would probably prevent you from riding off if you forgot to remove the lock).Because the arming cycle is so short, it is very easy to set off the alarm while trying to get the lock into place, or even remove the key. This is absolutely a poor design decision. No one is going to try to steal my bike while I am standing beside it (if this does happen I have a bigger problem to deal with). It would be completely find to increase the arming time to 10 or even 30 seconds. OR, have the LED signal that alarm is armed, but have a timeout of 30 seconds on the alarm itself.Get this right in the next version, ABUS, and you have a 5-star product.

I feel much better having this on my bike and leaving it out of my sight when I go downtown. People notice it and it keeps them from messing with anything. It never gives a false alarm or goes off in my tank bag. Definitely buy a reminder cable it helps draw attention to the lock. This product is awesom,e solid, and well worth the money. Very quick and easy to install. Nice and loud too!

The media could not be loaded. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY This lock actually fell apart after one month of daily use. I’m writing this after the ball bearing literally fell out of it and would not lock while I was out in townThe lock is difficult to put on correctly as the key hole is right next to the rim so turning the key once it’s attached is difficult and normally sets off the alarm as you jiggle it around to get the angle right. If there isn’t a lot of clearance between your brake rotor and rim good luck not setting this alarm off constantly.This lock was a complete waste of money don’t buy it - mine fell apart in almost exactly a month of normal daily use.Complete Garbage
