So I called ASUS and this first guy was great, told me exactly what to do
I had bought an ASUS laptop for gaming and school work. 7 months after I bought it the "x" key stopped working. Not a big deal who uses the x key I decided to wait till I was going on vacation to get it fixed so it would be fixed when I got back. Later the "s" key stopped working as well. So I called ASUS and this first guy was great, told me exactly what to do, gave me the shipping label, he did his job spectacularly and I was asked to do a survey. I did this survey as everything was going swimmingly great reviews all around. While on vacation, I had a moment of time with internet so I checked my email and found an email from ASUS saying I had an invoice, which was weird because my problem was covered under warranty the first dude even said so. So I call ASUS again to hear some keys were broken off the keyboard and that isn't covered under warranty and I have to pay $150 for them to repair my computer. This 2nd person had no idea what was going on she told me the X key was broken off the keyboard; I later looked at the picture when I had more internet time to see three random keys were broken off. the home, pgup, and = keys I believe. Person number two ends up giving me the number to claims because my problem is no longer her department. The conversation promptly ends there without asking me to do a survey. I call claims and guess what they are closed on weekends, which for you guys at ASUS is probably information you should give to your disgruntled customers. So I immediately call back, praying to god I get this same person over again but I don't. Come in person number three. I ask "why would you guys give me a number and not tell me they wouldn't answer the phone on the other end?" This dude tells me he doesn't know it wasn't him. I then ask to speak to quite literally anyone else and he asks me "why they will tell you the same thing?" So after telling him because I'm tired of listening to his voice I get transferred to some supervisor who was pretty chill. After this phone call I don't get a survey. I end up using the online chat to see if I can get any info that way because as of this moment I have a phone number that I can't use and I am back to having internet as my vacation is over. The online chick was super helpful at the time. She gave me information so I could file a claim through the internet. I was asked to do a survey. Of course I did it and talked about how helpful she was but how horrible the two in the middle were. So I go to the email and follow the steps that were given to me. Go figure it doesn't work. I probably wouldn't be writing this if it did or if anything in these steps following the first guy had been different. I try to redo the steps because maybe I did something wrong but I kept ending up on a pay with paypal screen wanting my credit card info for this $150 that had to of been my fault. So I call again and talk to yet another person without a clue. I tell them I was told I could dispute the charges online. She tells me she will look. She comes back and starts to tell me the steps. I tell her I already did all of these steps. Then she tells me she will look into this further and call me back. She calls back and asks if I'm doing this on my phone. I tell her yes. She tells me the only way to be able to do this online is on a computer. Jaw dropping I ask her "On a computer huh?" She says "yes." So I ask her "Do you mean like the one I sent into you to get repaired, a computer like that?" She then realizes what is going on and decides to give me the phone number to claims, the place that is closed at the time. I again am not asked to do a survey. So I call claims today, now being monday. They answer I tell them whats going on and guess what? They can't do anything because their system is down. Guess what again I wasn't asked to do a survey again. TL DR;Got a computer less than a year ago, it broke and is covered under warranty. I called they did good I got survey. I went on vacation. They want $150 to repair a computer under warranty. I called to dispute they couldn't help, no survey. I called again about something else no help no survey. I do a live chat online, they seemingly helped I got a survey. I call again couldn't help no survey. I call this last time system down call later no survey. Well ASUS I can see how you have that great customer service you give surveys out when you pretend to help. Let me help you out with the next one I might receive. Nice computer when it works horrible company to deal with when it breaks under warranty. I will never recommend your products to anyone. If I had some money to waste I'd buy a different brand but that is about it.

thinking that if it were bad, I could always send it back
I saw a few reviews for this laptop mentioning that the screen might be less than stellar. I was a little worried about this but decided to order anyways, thinking that if it were bad, I could always send it back. If anyone else is sitting on the fence with this same worry, don't worry! The screen on mine is FANTASTIC. Lovely colors, bright, and great viewing angles. The keyboard on this laptop is also fantastic -- it has a great, clicky feel which is fantastic to type on.Everyone who has said that the touchpad isn't great is correct. The touchpad is not the best I have ever used. Maybe not exactly the worst, but not great. If you tap to click instead of pressing to click, it's much better. Pressing to click shows off a wobbly, loose motion that sometimes misregisters left clicks as right clicks. That being said, if you're thinking of buying this to play games, I hope that you aren't wanting to do that using the touchpad (does anyone actually do that on a gaming laptop?!). The touchpad is perfectly adequate for navigating around the web and Windows, again, particularly if you don't press to click. Finally, you might notice that oddly Windows shows this machine as GL553VW Signature Edition. The box mine came in and the sticker on the bottom of the machine both say ZX53VW; I'm not at all bothered by that since all the other specs are completely correct, and hey, it's a signature edition image! No bloatware, hooray! The fan can get a bit loud when gaming, but it's fairly silent when just using Chrome or lighter tasks light that, and the keyboard and touch pad don't seem to get hot even while gaming, which is a huge plus for me. Even when the fan does get going, it's never intrusive.Overall, love this machine. Nice rigid case, nice keyboard, and speedy without tons of bloatware (or actually, any that I could spot). Also a lovely screen. Not a perfect touchpad, but if Asus had to cut corners anywhere on this machine, I am so glad they decided to do it there instead of giving it a crummy screen, bad keyboard, or overheating problems, which this laptop has none of.Update about a month later:I just wanted to update this review now that I've had about a month with this laptop. I'm very, very happy with it! The screen is fantastic and really is IPS as confirmed by the part number in Device Manager. Dead Pixel Buddy shows NO dead pixels or other problems, and the screen, to me at least, is very bright and great to work on. I still love the keyboard and have zero complaints with it (well, OK, the number pad keys are half size, but Asus or anyone else couldn't squeeze a full size number pad into a 15.6" laptop without compromising the size of the main keys). This laptop plays all the games that I enjoy extremely well: Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto V, and Cities Skylines all work really well. I haven't had any troubles with this machine and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great, mid-level gaming laptop that doesn't break the bank. :)
