what is the max weight limit for sitting?

Definitely over 250 lbs with no problems. I'd guess close to 300. I have 2 in my office and they're fine with people of that weight in them.

does this have to be assembled?

Yes, but it is very easy and takes about 5 minutes. It comes with the Allen wrench that you need.

Is the vinyl durable or would it rip easy?

It's pretty durable. I've used it daily several times a day for a couple or more years and hasn't ripped so far. It's not a flimsy vinyl.
