His favorite gift
Bought this for our 10yo. Love that he can play against the computer. Good quality and even has Checkers as an option

Great buy 🛍️
I bought this for my grandson for Christmas he's 11 years old is he is very easy for him to use and controls are easy the pieces don't slide off you would think with them being magnetic that they would but they don't he plays in the car got teachable modes they can play against the computer or play against another player it's a great buy

Decent but not for $80USD
I picked this up as an Xmas gift for my daughter and I to share. She has been asking me to teach her how to play chess and I figured it would be a great bonding experience for us. When she is alone with it, she could play against the computer to hone her skills. After she opened it Xmas day, we settled in after Xmas dinner to start the instructions and play a bit:The set itself is a bit on the smaller side. Even my daughter, who has tiny hands, said it was a little too small for her liking.Another problem is it comes with no spare queen pieces for pawn exchanges. The pieces themselves are ok but many aren't centered or properly mounted to their magnetized bottoms (they tend to lean a bit when placed). The magnetic force isn't that great either. The screen is woefully small but readable. I do like that the board itself has chess notations on every square for beginners. My daughter is a life long lover of checkers so she likes the idea of being able to switch off and play either at her discretion. The set does come with a complete set of checkers pieces too.We played for a few hours and in that time frame my daughter was able to pick up the basics and start to adapt and self correct her mistakes which was an absolute joy to watch unfold as each game with instructions she demonstrably got better and better.Having used plenty of electronic chess sets, the problem I have is this is clearly not a ~$80USD chess set but maybe a $30USD chess set or $40USD at most.If it was half the price I could see giving it 4 or 5 stars but for $80? 3 stars at best.If it does manage to go on sale or be marked down to a proper $30-$40USD range is is worthy for your consideration for purchase.3/5

Does not work good and display horrible!
I should have already returned this. When my grandson did get to try to play it we couldn’t get anything to program or work right! It was a total waste of money! Don’t buy it. Such a small screen for the price. A big disappointment!

Tiny display is unreadable in low light. Horrible game play.
I was really expecting the board itself to light up the squares but this is not the case. You have to look at the tiny LCD in order to see the move for the computer. This is a deal breaker for me as it takes the fun out of it. Interrogation level lighting and reading glasses are needed in order to play. I need something that can be played in low light without reading glasses. Also, the game play is very cumbersome and in some cases buggy. It would be nice to turn off hints and help and only have the game interrupted if an illegal move is attempted.

Lots of fun and pretty cool!
I love this talking chess set. Anyone can play it. It has multiple levels which is nice, especially for beginners. Highly recommend!

Very good value
For something so cheap it is really very good. It's hard to figure out how to operate it though and that learning is frustrating. There are lots of features but few control inputs so it's hard to set up the game and difficulty the way you want it.
