Q: How long is the typical life of the blade? Do you replace it when it get dull?

I am unsure of the typical life of this blade. But I have always heard that you never need to replace the blade on a guillotine cutter. I use mine alot, and I absolutely love this cutter!

Q: Can you hold down the paper with the guard?

If you’re referring to the clear plastic strip along the right edge, yes you can. Slide your paper uder the strip and you can press down on the strip while cutting to hold the paper steady. Just be careful not to get your fingers too close to the edge in cutting.

Wow! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for!

Wow! I have the Tim Holtz guillotine trimmers and love the mini, but wasn’t getting as great results with the 12” because of the arm extension. It wouldn’t always let my paper lay straight across, resulting in uneven cuts. But this baby has a large base that holds your paper and give perfectly straight cuts each and every time. It also cuts several sheets of paper with ease. It has clear measurement markings and is a must for card makers and scrapbookers! I highly recommend this to anyone who paper crafts.
