Very effective. Replacement handle helps.
Very effective at lifting compressed carpeting and making it look much better. I can also see debris that has settled deep in the carpet popping up to lay on top to be vacuumed. The handle is pretty wonky, but a $9 replacement wooden handle from Amazon fixed that. You can screw the bottom handle segment back in for stairs, or just buy a handheld version of this device, as I did, for use in compact areas.

Great, sturdy area rug rake
Bought for an area rug that my dogs use, it's 7 ft x 7 ft. Kind of fluffy rug,. This rake assembled easy and sturdy enough to rake with no problems handle length is perfect, I'm 5'5.

Eh, it works as you would expect. Fluffed my old dingy carpet temporarily.
My carpet is old and needs to be replaced. This helped fluff the fibers and also raked out dog hair, though I wasn't as impressed as I hoped I would be.All in all, it serves its purpose and does what you would think it would.Reason for 4 stars: The handle sucks, It falls apart easily. Its made in separate pieces, i think to make shipping easy, but it is not strong once put together. Luckily, I used an old broom handle and it solved my problems.

Can you rake too much???
This rake was exactly what I was looking for. It definitely does help with matting and will make your carpets look better and fluffier! I’ve been obsesses with it, using it everyday. I wish I would have found this sooner!! I do see what people mean about the handle being kind of flimsy however I am 6’2”, 190 and use a decent amount of force without any issues or breaks. Do yourself a favor and get this product. I will probably get another one!!

Very good...
I like this rake as it has a 3 piece handle. As it turns out there are places like stairs where the full length handle is awkward to use. The only concern I have is how well the combs will hold up. My previous rake (well over 10 years old) had combs that were a little bit more rigid and they never broke, they simply wore down a little from use so I thought it was time to replace. So far I haven't had any issues with the new one and it seems to rake the carpet well. So it's unfair to say it won't hold up long term. I'll update the review in a couple of months after I've had chance to use it around the house on all the carpets and rugs.BTW, a carpet rake is a great tool. I've never had one rip out any threads etc and they absolutely do bring the spring back into carpets and rugs. I also found that if I vacuum a carpet/rug and them rake, just before I use my Bissel carpet shampooer, that really helps a huge deal in cleaning deep.I should also note I have not tried a rake on a shag pile carpet. So I cannot say if it would work on one of those.UPDATE:After 2 weeks usage I docked 2 stars. The rake does work and works well but the 3 part handle locking design is a really poor design. Considering the effort you need to rake a carpet, no way this handle would hold up for long. In my case, the top section on mine keeps popping out. I've tried tightening more but too much effort and it pops out also. Maybe I just have a "bad" one. This looks like a standard handle thread so I may look around for a better handle elsewhere but for what the product is, without a solid working handle, it's not what it's advertised to be.

Rake lightly, it collects the hair!
I love this thing! It works very well. Just rake it across the carpet without a lot of pressure .. and it collects the hair!

Picks Up Pet Hair
Finally, the carpet rake I've been looking for, it actually picks up hair instead of dragging it around. In the past, I bought a rake with 2 sides: rubber tines/squeegee. It worked the hair into a pile but wore me out. Next I tried rakes with metal teeth of varying length. Some were too rough, others did nothing. This rake does just what I want, it preps my carpet for vacuuming by loosening the dirt and actually grabbing the pet hair. Now, when I vacuum, the vacuum bag picks up the dirt, instead of filling up with pet hair first. I have 4 very hairy pets and this is just what I wanted. The tines are nylon and I don't know how long they will hold up but right now, I'm happy enough that I think I'll be glad to buy another if this wears out- provided that doesn't happen too quickly. Perhaps I'll post an update in the future.
