A must have!
I had a labrum repair surgery; this cold therapy machine was a God send. I was able to leave the hard-core opioid meds 3 days after the surgery and stay in ibuprofen twice a day like for 2 days after and by the end of the week, I was not using any pain meds. I ran this machine almost non-stop in 60 min cycles for the first week. The next week I ran it twice a day for 1h in 15 min cycles during the day and I slept with it in 30 min cycles. By the third week I am using it once or twice a day after the light PT I am now but not at night. I found my recovery almost miraculously quick given what the doctor said.About the machine, It was easy to setup. We use the recommendation of frozen water bottles, and it was just snap the tubes and use the remote, which is wonderful. Looks like they improve it since I read older reviews complaining but I do not have any complains about it. I used the shoulder attachment that comes with the black cover and was easy to figure how to attach it. Make sure you always have fabric under it, when running in the highest cold setting so you avoid froze bite specially at the beginning if you get your nerves blocked and do not have sensation on the limb. After you will know and adjust. I hope you do not need any kind of musculoskeletal surgery but if you have to go through that I highly recommend using a machine like this one.

Better then ever expected to help reduce post surgery swelling and pain
I Would HIGHLY! Recommend buying this to help with post surgery recovery.... I purchased this Polar Active Ice 3.0 Cold Therapy Ice Machine prior to undergoing my second total hip replacement surgery and having this machine had been a real game changer to help reduce swelling and pain. I use 6 frozen water bottles and the circulating water stays ICE COLD for hours. I'm over 6' tall with pretty thick legs... And the 12.5" x 31.5" therapy pad that came with the unit I purchased is large enough to cover from the top of my hip to just above my knee. This system is a tank! I have been using it every day and the automatic on/off timer has definitely helped me sleep more comfortably throughout the night. I just set the timer and the system automatically turns on and off throughout the entire night. They also have Amazing Customer Service... I had one issue with the system and called their customer service support number and spoke with helpful customer service representative who transferred me to one of their engineers who was able to quickly identified the issue and he shipped out replacement part for me that same day via two day express shipping from Ohio. And the part was actually delivered to me in So FL the very next day.

Wow! What a lifesaver for pain relief!
I purchased this after being sent home from the hospital after knee surgery. I was in agony and my entire leg from the knee to the toes became horridly edematous. Looking for more constant pain relief than what pills were providing, I searched for an ice water circulating machine. I was pleasantly surprised that the cost was reasonable and ordered this after comparing various ones. I especially appreciate being able to adjust the level of coldness with a remote as well as the remote giving me control over how long the ice water circulates as well as the length of pauses between active circulation. Immobility makes the remote priceless. The pain relief I got was instantaneous AND complete! It gave me the break from constant excruciating pain immediately. The swelling in my leg also began to slowly subside. I used it lying down with my leg elevated on a foam wedge. I also used it sitting in my recliner. At our age of 69 years, we found it super easy to set up and get running. I used it for several weeks and and very happy that I bought this. This is a relatively small size and doesn't weight a lot empty - weighs a bit with ice and water but that can be added once it is in the place you are going to be using it. It is easily portable - just needs an electrical outlet within about 5 feet. I highly recommend purchasing this if you are planning to have any type of orthopedic surgery (although I suspect it would be useful for other types of surgery also.) I also recommend this for chronic pain or injuries. My only suggestion is that if you are the least bit a "larger" person (I weigh 200 lbs. at 5'3") that you get the large "blanket" rather than the knee wrap as with the swelling after surgery I could barely get the edges of the knee wrap to meet to velcro. I certainly wish I had gotten the larger "blanket", but made do until the swelling receded quite a bit and the wrap fit my leg better. Even so, it was an incredible relief. One of the best purchases ever. After reading several questions and reviews I have to add the following: The remote has been improved - you can control the temperature with the new improved programable timer and temperature control remote. You have 4 choices of temperature control. Works fantastic! Direct from their website: "The combination programmable timer & temperature flow control (#DFT) is a direct replacement for the programmable timer (#DTP), which has been discontinued. In addition to custom cold therapy "on" and "off" cycles, this combination remote allows you to adjust the flow of the water through the system, which will in-turn make the water temperature less cold."

GREAT PRODUCT AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE—EXCEPT FOR ONE THING—SEE REVIEW, BELOW.
I am pleased with my choice. I was offered the Game Ready rental, but I was looking for a less expensive option. This hit the sweet spot for me. Very easy to set up and use. I am retired and 75 yrs. old. I am 48 hrs. post-total knee replacement and it works great. I am scheduled for my other knee in 6 weeks. Six standard 16.9oz bottles of frozen water (with labels removed and caps loosened until frozen) fit neatly into the reservoir laying on their sides. We froze 18 of them to rotate, but I think 12 would be sufficient. I bought and like the timer option EXCEPT FOR ONE BIG COMPLAINT—THE CORD FROM THE TIMER TO THE MACHINE SHOULD BE AT LEAST 2-3 FT., OR MORE, LONGER. That is the only fault I can find with this product. The cord from the timer to the wall outlet is plenty long. I recommend ordering it with the 12.5” x 22.5” pad for the knee application. Highly recommended overall.

I love the Polar Active Ice Machine!
I absolutely love the Polar Active Ice machine! I purchased it for rotator cuff surgery and have used it for the past six weeks. The first few days after surgery, I ran it all night; after three weeks, I changed it to the default run: 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off. There are several other features that I love about this product. First, you may use 4-6 frozen water bottles instead of ice. That is more convenient, less expensive, and neater. Second, the Polar Active Ice machine has a timer that allows you to set your own time for time on and off. Third, it is lightweight, with a handle for easy transfer from room to room. I was able to empty the water and move it with my nonsurgical arm. Finally, it is reasonably priced and has more options than others for the listed price. I cannot recommend this Polar Active Ice machine more highly whether for surgery, injury, or simple aches and pains.
