MAJOR SAFTEY ISSUE!! PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN TO AVOID A POSSIBLE TRAGEDY!!!
DO NOT TRUST THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER TO PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN!!! I was in my bedroom with my 18 month old son and I heard my VT20i pop open on my nightstand. My son was standing there staring at the Glock 9mm pistol that I keep in there. Thankfully I scooped him up before he could grab it. To say that this is unacceptable would be the understatement of the millennium!!! I use a six digit passcode so there is no way he entered that... so I checked the fingerprint scanner. I closed the safe and then placed his tiny index finger on the sensor... the thing popped right open!!Please avoid a tragedy and do not use the fingerprint scanner! I called customer support and they responded:“It's rare, but a parent/ child fingerprint can be close enough to where your son can be accepted as a match. Fingerprint technology has several factors in the matching algorithm that is preset during manufacturing. It's a fine tuning between very strict or having some built in tolerances. Your son could be accepted under this tolerance, but by deleting the finger he's matching you can prevent that from occurring again. See if you can replicate the same problem across other fingers you have programmed in.”I still use the safe but with the fingerprint scanner disabled. It is a very well built unit and it works great with the 6 digit code. Take my advice and don’t even bother buying the fingerprint model if you have children... just go with the keypad only version. It has been very reliable.

Save $80 and get the VT20 as the Biometric Feature DOES NOT WORK
The safe is well-made and of high quality. It's large enough to hold a small flashlight, my baby Glock 33, two spare magazines, 12 shotgun shells and the key to my shotgun. In other words, large enough. It fits in a drawer and opens well with the drawer reasonably extended. It's not too heavy, but heavy enough. It can be attached either by screws through the bottom or by an included cable that screws into the safe. However, you won't want it fixed in such a manner that you cannot access the manual key hole on the front or the micro usb port on the right as the safe requires re-charging from time to time. How long? I don't know yet. I immediately turned off the bluetooth connectivity as I'm sure this eats up the (non-standard) rechargeable battery 10 times faster. I really don't have any need to access the safe with my iPhone.Speaking of accessing the safe, here is the real problem with the VT20i: The biometric feature does not work, not well enough to stake your life on it working! If you work your finger around enough, removing and replacing it several times you can eventually get it to open. However, this is way slower than punching it a 4-digit or even 6-digit code. I wish that I had just saved the $80 and bought the VT20, which is identical except for the biometric access. Note that the safe can store 12 finger prints. I stored multiples pictures of both my left and right index fingers using slightly different angles and it still doesn't work very well. Here's a hint for the manufacturer: Once you get it going (e.g. get it to recognize your finger print once) it keeps on working. However, if you just walk up on it cold it takes a very long time to get it open. WAY TOO LONG! Perhaps they'll fix this. In the meantime, save $80 and buy the VT20. I still gave it 4 Stars as it is a generally well made product that highly contributes to gun safety.

Fingerprint reader doesn't work and key pad to unlock is not kid safe
The fingerprint reader doesn't work consistently. I have other devices with fingerprint readers that I would say work 99% of the time. This Vaultek fingerprint reader is about 20% accurate. I tried different fingers, my thumb. I added the same finger 10 times because it has profile space for 20 fingers. I was thinking if it works 20% of the time and I add the same finger 10 times then it should greatly increase the odds of it working but it still failed more than it worked. The number keys 1 to 5 to unlock are not secure. The unit beeps and tells you when a key in the combo sequence is wrong. The unit will also make you wait 4 min if you fail 6 unlock attempts in a row. For example if your code is 1,2,5,4,3 and you press 1,2,3 as soon as you press the 3 it beeps at you so you know 3 is not the 3rd number. You then also know 1 and 2 are the first 2 numbers so the difficulty of guessing goes way down. Now you only need to guess 3 to 6 more numbers because the max number code is 8 digits and lowest is 5 with 1 to 5 possible values. After 30 min of guessing my kid was able to break into it.The physical keys work great but I docked it stars here because it has this rubber cover that you have to peel back before you can insert the key. This requires 2 hands and the rubber is very stiff and difficult to pull back if you don't have long finger nails. The only quick and sure way to get into the safe is with the number keys code. The smart phone app is not good. Several times it would say the device was busy and wouldn't let me swipe to unlock it. Also it takes several seconds to pair every time you open the app. If you open the app out of range and then move into range it takes even longer to pair.
