New & Improved Tasty Egg White Chips
Yum! I initially discovered IPS (rhymes with 'chips') via a promo coupon last year. I tried them out and I thought that they were a tasty snack!IPS went through a rebranding and it appears that they upgraded their product as well! They say that they are the original egg white chips and are "Intelligent Protein Snacks." This product is meant for folks who are used to to consuming healthier snacks, so if you are seeking out a fried chip, I would suggest that you might prefer a different product. For those of you who embrace snacks such as rice cakes, read on! : )What I appreciate is that they provide protein and lower fat content since they are baked and not fried. In addition, they are gluten-free, non-GMO, and all natural, all of which are things that I seek out in my food. A third plus is that they are made in the USA.The taste is much like a crispy, airy rice cake with a nice kick of natural cheese flavor, which is the first improvement that I noticed. They are also not messy and there is no cheesy residue on your fingers or at the bottom of the bag like there used to be initially, so I appreciate this improvement as well. The crunch is pleasing and the 1 ounce individual portion size is perfect to snack on, compliment your sandwich at lunch, or as a quick bite on the go.They come in four flavors: Aged White Cheddar (my favorite), Barbeque (also nice), Sea Salt & Black Pepper (has a bite due to the black pepper), and Cinnamon (sweet).I enjoy them so much that I set up a Subscribe & Save Order when I saw that Amazon.com offered them on the site.

Ips Chips is a Great Tasting Snack!
Ips Chips comes in several flavors that include barbeque, white cheddar, and sea salt & black pepper. For this review, I will be writing about all three since with a product such as this taste is important. I will note that these are not really chips but more of like a baked puff in the shape of a chip.Barbeque: They do not really smell like much, kind of like flour with a slight BBQ smell. When you taste them you are hit with very strong BBQ taste. It was kind of a cross between mesquite and a honey BBQ. It was definitely more mesquite and there was some spice to it. It was quite good.Sea Salt & Black Pepper: These have a very strong peppery smell, which I personally liked. When you first taste these you get a blast of pepper that is followed by an almost buttery taste. They were not overly salty and had a good balance of flavors. This one was quite good as well.White Cheddar: These have a very distinct cheese smell. They smell like the packets of the powdered cheese in macaroni and cheese boxes. When you first taste these you get a very cheesy taste that is followed a milky taste. It kind of tastes like dried macaroni and cheese. I felt that this flavor was just okay.Overall, these were a nice snack and I definitely recommend giving them a try.

Needs sugar
I love churros and was disappointed with the bland flavor of these chips. They have an ample amount of cinnamon, but no sweetness to speak of. These might be healthier than a churro, but it really needs some sugar to taste like one.

They completely got rid of the egg protein! I feel so betrayed!
What did they do?! These chips were amazingly delicious, and quite healthy, too. I ordered a bunch more recently, since I'd run out. Now I've discovered that they took out the egg protein, leaving only whey protein instead. The flavor is okay. It is NOT rich and flavorful like it was. It pretty much tastes exactly like a typical cheese puff now, only with less flavor. It's not horrible, but it's VERY boring, and not worth paying a premium for these snacks.I'm crushed. I really loved the original recipe, which had 7 grams of egg protein. I really liked the second recipe, which had 6 grams of egg protein. This . . .I'm very disappointed. I shouldn't have to check the ingredients list every time they change the packaging to find out what else they've removed from the recipe to make it less tasty. I feel betrayed.

Changed again, but still handy snack on the go
Well, they've changed Ips chips again. The latest batch has another new package design (which alerted me). The original had the story of its origin in the kitchen frying pan--the founder's (Sean Olson) kids loved the edges of fried egg white that cooked crisp, so Ips were developed mostly out of egg white and the package called them egg white chips, if I remember right--that's what originally caught my eye when I first saw them a couple of years ago. The version in the purplish package mentioned the egg whites only on the back: "premium protein from whey and egg white," and was labeled "puffed corn & protein snack." It did contain the blurb about how "the idea...was first hatched," but now the egg content was less than the whey, oil, and cheddar cheese. I preferred the old Ips' lighter texture and base flavor, though the cheddar flavor was stronger on the newer chips. This new incarnation has no egg at all and therefore no origins story. Now they'r just subtitled "the protein snack." The only mention of egg is a "protein comparison" showing one oz of Ips Chips equals one egg. They feature "whole grain corn flower and tout their lack of gluten or GMO ingredients (not anything new). They aren't as cheesy and they're lighter textured; I like the latter, but not as much the former, but i still like them well enough for their primary purpose--a convenient protein snack that isn't too high in calories or too messy and that I can keep in the car. Everything else except the lack of egg--and the packaging-- is the same.

They changed the packaging and the taste.
These used to be much better in the white packages. They were a little softer, but had more flavor. Now they are too crispy with little flavor. Just salk and pepper.
