Another Excellent book from Usbourne
Excellent book, well put together and easy to use. Age range is probably all primary school years but with help from parents for 5-7 year olds. This book will remind (or correct) parents knowledge of English grammer, sorry, grammar, spelling and punctuation. I never knew spelling was so difficult!Small points which I disagree with are, for example, the use of double speech marks with only a passing reference to the fact that some people use single speech marks instead. I thought that the general usage was now single as opposed to double. Still, if you don't agree with what's been said (and that will, I think, be very rarely) then you can correct it yourself before passing it to your child to use as a reference (also check with the school as to their preferred way). All in all, good value and one of the best on the market dealing with this age range.

REALLY, REALLY LOVE THIS BOOK - surprised at amount of information........for book of its size.
Really, REALLY LOVE THIS BOOK. Ordered for my Grandson. So well laid out, loads n loads of information. Also, quality of book, including cover strength, colour, is great. Easy to read, lots of great examples. Surprised at the amount of information packed into book for its size. Thinking of ordering copy for myself to brush up on grammar, spelling and punctuation skills which I loved learning at school - now well into 60's. so will be an easy way to refresh my own knowledge. Arrived very quickly and packaged well. Extremely happy with this purchase. Thank you.

A useful book to have to hand
It is a simple and direct explanation of the basic rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Because it is slim it is easy to use as a reference. For anyone in need of a fuller explanation of the gerund you would need a more advanced work, but I would see it as invaluable to the rising generation

Just bought the 8th, 9th and 10th copies of this superb book to take to friends and colleagues in Namibia. One is for a primary teacher as she will find it useful in her teaching of children for whom English is not their first language but for whom it's the country's official language. Others are for friends with children who need help with the complexities of English, especially grammar and spelling. My purchases of the first 7 copies have been spread over a number of years and given to friends' children and relatives around the world and also used by me when teaching adult literacy.

The Usborne Guide to Better English
I bought this book for my 9 year old daughter so that she could have a user friendly reference guide for grammar and spelling.I find the book clear, it includes learning tips plus it is very colourful which makes it appealing and relevant to year 4-6 students. It shows one how to structure a sentence properly and gives examples of commonly misused words for example "lend" and "borrow".Additionally, it is a useful aid when doing homework, my daughter refers to it frequently.

Helped me to learn things that I had forgotten!
I used this book to help me pass my literacy skills test for teaching. It really helped me to remember the things that I had forgotten from being at school. Very user friendly, and I can also use this book whilst I am teaching at school, as it is child friendly too.Only problem is that there isn't any room to write anything on the pages, so you will need paper and a pen. Overall excellent book to keep checking over.

Excellent guide to basic English
If you want a clear and simple guide this is it. I also bought the guide to English grammar but all of that book is contained in this one so just buy this! Useful for all primary teachers as you could show quite young children examples of the use of English or adapt them to produce your own. Highly recommended.
