I have had great luck with Canon Printers
I have used Canon Printers for many years now. After going through several other printer brands over the years I found my first canon one (in 2002) and really never looked back. I upgraded that one about 10 years ago even though the first was working fine (gave old one to sister in law). My ten year old printer worked flawlessly for that entire time until just recently when the print head died on it.I did some research with a bias towards Canon since I had good results with my old ones. This one looked good and had features that my old one did not, such as a scanner, wifi printing etc.Setting up the printer was relatively easy and I was able to print from my phone, my daughter's laptop over wifi and all our other computers via hard wired network that same night. I was confused about some of the directions, but figured it out relatively easily, and never had any problems. The printing speed is very fast compared to my old printer and the quality is very good. I was able to use all of my old gloss printer paper for pictures (some of which was probably close to 10 years old since I had stocked up back then) and it looked great. Colors seemed pretty well matched and I did not need to do any calibration. I prefer the printing software from my old printer and that worked well even with the new printer. My only complaints are:1.) the scanning software is very basic and will not replace my old scanner.2.) The printing from my phone also seemed pretty basic in that it gave me a list of documents and pictures I could print, but would not let me look for others on the phone. I doubt I would use that feature much anyway, but it is nice to have.3.) If it has been not used in several days, it does take a while to get itself up and running again, but usually it is fast since we print fairly often.4.) I do not like the default software package that was included. After installing on the first computer I decided not to install it on the rest of the computers. My old software (from my 10 year old Canon printer) had more options and customization capability for printing. As I mentioned above, I was able to use the old software and it worked perfectly.I debated taking a star off just because of the relatively basic software package, but for me I can still use my old software and I am otherwise very happy with the purchase for the price.

Amazing printer and amazingly easy to use...once you know how. ;-)
Let me preface this by saying that I have had this printer 5-6 hours, so I cannot attest to it's longevity. It was easy to install the printer cartridges and paper into it and it's easy to use once paired with my computer wirelessly, but I would have knocked 3 stars off for ease of set-up (pairing it with my computer wirelessly) except for one thing and that's Canon's tech support. When I couldn't set it up by myself (why doesn't the CD that comes with it work with Apple Mac computers?) I called Canon's tech support and they walked me through the set-up. It was really easy once they told me how to do it. (Understand, someone even slightly more tech savvy than I would probably have no problem with it.) Within 5-10 minutes talking with tech support I was set-up and my computer was printing wirelessly to the printer. Additionally, Canon's tech support walked me through printing from my iPhone and iPad (awesome!), including using a Canon app I downloaded from iTunes (convenient, but not necessary) and how to print both from the app and straight from my iPhone and iPad. (I admit that I'm 60 years old, so tech does not come easy for me normally.)After setting up the printer, I have been using this printer for several hours with a back-log of work that I had waiting for a new printer. And, I admit, I have also been printing photos. I am amazed by how easy this printer is to use and how well the printed output looks, both with documents and pictures.Just a note, the first set of ink cartridges will be used faster than subsequent ink cartridges because of the ink necessary to fill the empty ink heads. That's in the documentation and I can see that after the ink heads loaded that there was a slight, but noticeable, dip in ink levels according to the graphic on the LCD screen on the printer. I imagine that is true with all printers. That the printer has an LCD screen showing the level of ink left is great, as it will really make it easy to know when you are running low. I can envision no more getting half-way through my print job and realizing that I have to run out and buy more ink. What is most amazing to me is that Canon will provide free telephone tech support for the life of the printer. The warranty is for 12 months on the actual printer, which I think is pretty darn generous. I didn't know either of these facts until talking to the tech support person tonight. If you want to check my claims on this you can call them at 1-800-OK-CANON. I wish I had known that before buying, as I would have committed to buying a lot sooner than I did. This printer came really well packed, both from Canon and from Amazon. Shipping, of course, was fast and I love being able to track my packages from Amazon.Edited about 10 months later. I am still loving the ease of use of this printer. I've never had to call tech support again. I just prints and that's what I'm asking of it. I'm happy. Plus, it looks good sitting on my desk and doesn't take up a huge amount of space.

4.5 - A good upgrade and prints well
Prints really nicely and is much smarter than my previous HP machine. Wireless works well and easy to set up. There are cheap cartridges available on amazon so that's nice too. Only thing I'll say is that it takes a longer than normal tine print - it seems to do a bit of processing before printing a color job. If this were shorter, I'd say 5 stars.May 2017A year and 4 months later - Printer has a mechanical failure, Error B203. I tried taking out the printer heads and cleaned it and had it dry over night to no avail. I then call up Canon customer service who said that there was nothing they could do. It was pretty decent printer, but I had my HP for like 10 years and it was still going strong when I gave it up. Now, I have to throw it away which feels like a waste. A shame. :((
