I purchased these Hurley patriotic board shorts to replace an old pair because I lost some weight and need them for a trip to Hawaii. I went with the black and gray style because I liked the color scheme. I prefer board shorts over swim trunks because board shorts do not have a liner, so I can wear my own boxer-briefs under them.Upon receiving them, the board shorts don't look exactly as advertised. The colors are of the flag are muted and look good as I expected. There are reflective Hurley symbols on the front and back that don't detract from the look. The waistband and matching back pocket, however, are much lighter than pictured, and I don't like the color because it doesn't match the style of the rest of the board shorts, so it really sticks out over the muted flag.The material is a bit thinner than my old board shorts, which means it probably dries faster, but the material doesn't feel cheap. The drawstring fly feels sturdy, and I'll need them to be tight because the shorts are a bit large. I'm 5'7" and 138 pounds with a 30-inch waist, so I ordered the size 30, and there's a significant gap around my waist. It's not too bad because I'll be wearing something underneath them, but a smaller size would have suited me better. The velcro on the back pocket is pretty cheap and doesn't hold closed tightly. The pocket is also very small. My iPhone X with Otterbox Defender case can slip in it, but the flap doesn't close and the phone sticks out a bit. Also, it's a back pocket instead of a cargo pocket, so I can't sit down with my phone in my pocket. I think the pocket is more for aesthetics than function. My old board shorts have a functional cargo pocket and these Hurley board shorts could really benefit from one.Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and will be using these board shorts on my trip. I do recommend them. 4/5 stars
