Samson and Delilah [ 1949 ] [ Blu-Ray ]

Samson and Delilah film was made in 1949 was great to watch and very interesting than any other films, The film is about a true story from your own Bible is Truth say that he was able to overcome such a powerful animal. He didn't fully understand that he had been given special protection and great amount of extra strength by a loving God.(Judges 14:6.) Samson dragged the dead lion back from the trail before they rode into sight. Samson's where arrangement were made for his marriage to the Palestine woman whom God had put in Samson's life so that he would have a necessary closer association with Palestine oppressors. Some of them resented Samson's marriage to a woman with whom they had been more than friendly time to time, and who had no intention of changing her ways. (Judges 14:10.) Samson angrily snatched up the insolent Philistine as though he were a light bundle of rags!. The sound of the fight quickly attracted other men. Samson planned to get away before the Philistine could attack him in greater numbers, Samson had heavy thick long haired nazarite! (Judges 15:9-11.) Samson's swift, use of a donkey's jawbone and God's help. (Judges 15:15.) When Philistine soldiers were hundreds and thousands, Men were rammed up to the Danite by hundreds, but Samson swung the jawbone so swiftly and fiercely that no man was able to seize him or even touch him without being severely wounded or slain. So Samson attacked them hip and thigh with a great slaughter( Judges 15:7),The sight of the slaughter of their fellow soldiers by man crushing disappeared into the hills, bringing the strange battle to quick end. Samson left the inn about midnight, he carefully silently went to the double gate of the city. He thought it strange that no guards were in sight. He hurried to remove the bar that held the gates locked and rigid after dark. To this surprise, after he removed the bar, the gate were still rigid. He pushed and pulled on them, but they wouldn't open. Lifting one edge up, Samson squeezed under the gates and hoisted them into his shoulders. After balancing them to the best position, he walked away with gates of Gaza post, bar and all ! (Judges 16:1-3)... Samson suddenly was aware that someone was shoving red hot pieces of metal directly toward his eyes !(Judges 16:20-21.) blinds Samson was forced to used his increasing strength as his hair grew to a great length again- in pushing or pulling heavy milestones. And then Samson's bucking the two main pillars of the pagan temple triggered the collapse of the whole building. Within the next few seconds thousands of Philistine died in the crumbling ruins. ( Judges 16:26-31.)The Bible tell the Truth and tell you all in the words of God's show you God's does not lie this is the Truth. Apparently, Cecil B. DeMille tested Steve Reeves for the part of Samson, because of his splendid ‘Mr Universe’ physique but due to his voice and/or lack of acting ability, the part went to Victor Mature; but then again, his physique, voice and acting ability really didn’t come up to scratch. It was Groucho Marx who said he refused to see a film where the leading man’s breasts were bigger than the leading lady’s and he might have had a point.But let’s face it, by any standards, overall this is a tremendous film and when one considers it was made 70 years ago, the special effects showing the bringing-down of the temple are terrific. Not so good is Samson’s grappling with the rubber/drugged/otherwise stupefied lion although his fight with the Siran’s wrestling champion is brief but very well staged as are his confrontations with the Philistines.Hedy Lamarr looks marvellous (although perhaps a tad too old for the teenage Delilah) and acting honours go to George Sanders as the bored, aloof and world-weary Siran; a perfect part for him, as were other parts in films in which he paid a supporting role.The transition to Blu-Ray is excellent – a perfect film for Sunday afternoon viewing.

Having not seen this movie since I was child and coming from a religious family, I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent restoration of this movie.the film unleashed on the world in 1949 and featuring Victor Mature, Hedy Lamarr, George Sanders, Henry Wilcoxon and the future, Murder She Wrote, Star...Angela Lansbury.The painstaking restoration of Samson & Deliah proves that any studio who is willing to spend the money in cleaning up the prints of old movies by removing dust, dirt and other damage and rescan the movies at a higher resolution truly cares for the quality of their films and reissue them to the highest quality available, this film now on the blu ray format will pass any critical eye and is good enough to be viewed on a large display.Technical Details...Dolby True HD English Mono and 1.37.1 Anamorphic Widescreen and a run time of 134 mins.This is a great presentation, worthy of those who love a pristine picture and good quality sound and not just for fans of biblical or historical epics such as The Robe, Spartacus, Ben Hur, Cleopatra, The Bible, Demetrius & The Gladiators, sequel to The Robe, EL Cid and others.You won't be sorry to own a copy of this excellent release.

Brilliant.Considering that this film was made in 1949.The quality, the acting and the special effects are on par with technology of today.There are no computer special affects and for those who have not seen this version, it will prove that the non availability of technology being used in that era is a milestone to those who contributed towards this film being given a rating of 5 stars.As for remakes, they have no comparison and to be blunt, are not in the same category to support filmography excellence.Victor Mature, Angela Lansbury and Hedy Lamarr acting was of the highest rating possible.Considering the time in which this film was made, it would be appropriate for this film to be heavily promoted and re screened in cinemas today.I cannot find anything negative about the acting, storyline filming affects and the quality of the film whatsoever.Like films similar in quality and filming excellence, Hercules Unchained, Romulus and Remus, Thief Of Baghdad, Last Days Of Pompeii, Goliath against the Barbarians STEVE REEVES all had brilliance attached to them.Steve Reeves had the perfect physique and these mentioned films will make reference to this.Especially, Goliath against the Barbarians.Samson and Delilah 1949 version will not be bettered in any aspect of film technology of today and as such will remain UNABLE TO BE IMPROVED ON.If I could rate this film more than 5/5 no hesitation would be warranted.
