I intended this as a gift, but after unpacking it I think I should have gotten two. To begin, it is very attractive, an attention getter before lighting it. And no, I did not actually light it, it is a gift after all.This type of mechanism is not complicated and there should be no problem with its lighting. The same applies to adjusting the flame, it’s not complicated and there should be no reason for it not to work well.The handle is not very large and could be uncomfortable for a person with large hands. The effect is dependent on the “chimney” covering the glass a mixed drink is in. While it should do for most, don’t plan on using this for glasses over 31/2” in diameter.

This cocktail smoker kit comes in a plain black tab-lock cardboard mailing box, but the contents of the kit are one of the better collections of all the smoker kits we've tried.The hand torch is full featured, with the ability to increase or decrease the size of the flame and also has an adjustment for the TYPE of flame, which I hadn't seen before. My only complaint about the hand torch is the "lock" is in an inconvenient place on the top of the unit.The selection of wood chips is nice, and includes rarely-seen pear chips, but the tins are small, so you only get a relatively small quantity of each.You also get both a scoop and cleaning tools, plus some whiskey chilling stones, which not all smokers include.Overall, aside from the plain exterior box, this is a great set and totally giftable.

I like that this came with a book that included different ways to smoke different cocktails. While we're still experimenting with different methods to draw out either stronger or more subtle smokiness, the flavors themselves are great. Lots of options to choose from. The torch is not loaded with butane so if you plan on gifting it, I'd either fill it beforehand or include a butane bottle with it since I'm sure most people would want to try it on the spot.The torch works well overall; doesn't work as well upside down but it does work. Has a nice look to it. The lid this comes with for smoking is sized so it can fit a few different types of glasses which is nice.Love it and would make a great gift for someone, especially whiskey lovers.

My husband has been smoking cocktails since he got this torch and since he bought some butane. He's really pleased with how well it works. He even smoked white russians.Fun thing to use and adds interesting flavor. Great gift item, too.

We liked this and plan on buying another as a gift. 6 types of wood is nice as you can experiment to see which ones you like the most or to try them with different types of drinks.

First off, let me clear the air with the four stars. The torch that came with this set malfunctioned (it leaked butane, and it wouldn't hold any at all) and it wasn’t safe to use. I took the torch to a nearby cigar bar and had it looked at. It was deemed not useable and not safe. Other than that, the set looks great. The Gold Torch and scooper are a fancy touch. It's too bad, I wasn’t able to use any of this set due to the torch issue.
