It is a clever design and good for cutting batches of reasonably substantial logs of similar size. It is a bit of a fiddle with logs of varying sizes because of the need to adjust the gap between the jaws. And you need to get that right otherwise the logs move about while being cut. That happened to me and I ended up cutting into the sawhorse and snapping off a couple of teeth from the saw chain. My fault for not being careful enough about setting the gap correctly, rather than an inherent fault.On balance, I prefer my Oregon Easy Cut sawhorse which can be loaded up with lots of logs of varying sizes, which can then be cut simultaneously. But I’m not sure if it is still widely available.That said, the Makita sawhorse is lighter and more compact, so if you want something that’s easily portable it might be just the right thing for you.

I was particularly looking for a replacement for my old Black and Decker Workmate that would facilitate sawing logs with a bow saw (I like the exercise!). I bought this product with some trepidation since the vast majority of the reviewers use chainsaws. I needn't have worried since this product is equally applicable for hand sawing and has approximately doubled my sawing throughput compared to using the Workmate.My only comment/critcism to-date is that it may benefit from some holes/lugs in the bottom rails that would accomodate ground fixing should this be required. With the equipment located on my decking I am able to stabilise against most movement by placing a foot on a bottom rail whilst sawing, however I can imagine that this would be less desirable/safe when operating a chainsaw.

Having only recently purchased a chainsaw and being physically and emotionally attached to my limbs I really didn't fancy the idea of holding a log with my foot or having to ask somebody to help (equally dangerous). I initially looked at conventional saw horses, thought about making my own and then I found these. With much umming and ahhring I convinced myself to buy one and see if all the other reviewers were indeed correct.... well 1 hour of sawing later I still have all limbs attached and a pile of sawn logs. More so this device is a dawdle to use and very stable in use. I have cut branches approximately 6' long from 2" diameter up to one I could barely lift on my own into 10" lengths. OK so at £70 it may seem expensive but it works exceptionally well, is built to last a lifetime, packs flat and errects in 30 seconds without tools, and will help keep you safe :-) I would thoroughly recommend this log holder to everybody who cuts logs.

It is functional, it is trivial but annoying to adjust the sawhorse to the size of the logs, best to batch them up in similar sized groups (diameter) when cutting. After two years one of the teeth that grip the logs on the main body of the saw horse have come loose rendering it dangerous to use. Disappointing, will look for another of different design to replace it.

Not sure how we have used an old fashioned wooden saw horse for so long before finding this. This piece of kit is amazing. Such a simple design and so easy to use. Place the length oflog in and push the teeth in to secure. Chalk lines on your length of log to get precise cuts and keep cutting until you get to the last bit Simples. The old wooden saw horse will be cut up for kindling.

I really like this piece of kit, it has enabled ,e to chop up wood with out the need to have anyone else holding it - making it safer and quicker. It adjust for the size of the wood you are chopping and seems a sturdy construction.My only slight criticism is that the teeth that hold the wood could be sharper, then the kit would hold a versatile range and size of woods.Overall I would definitely recommend this product if you are chopping tree branches etc.

Very pleased with the smart holder. Works extremely well even with crooked logs. Strongly made but light enough to carry around. Makes sawing logs much easier than trying to work on the ground. Only fault is sometimes the claws do not hold the log firm enough to prevent the log being pulled towards you by the motion of the chain. This is as much my fault by probably not making sure the claws are firmly embedded. Would recommend this however as an excellent tool.
