Large is 54.21 inches long . Compact is 34.52 inches long. Both models are 1.34 inches tall and 1.22 inches wide. This is from the Hue website.

Does this work with Hue Sync for Mac?

Yes, it does. Just add it to the Entertainment Area and set up its location and orientation. The tube was made with the gradient version of the strip, a feature that is best highlighted when used in Sync mode. The tube has a stronger diffusion cover than the strip which in my opinion looks even cooler, as it can even be angled in a slightly more revealing position to the eye with satisfying results.

Does it require the sync box to turn on or only if you want it to sync up with a movie or music?

It requires the sync box to coordinate colors with what being displayed on the TV. It can operate independently with user selected colors no sink box required using Philips Hue app
