Original writings, difficult to read.
This is an thick book with tiny print, and because of its format, it is hard-to-read. The spellings and punctuation are taken from the writer's original journals and can be confusing. The ones who compiled it deserve huge praise for their efforts. It is a fascinating look at a forgotten time and a woman living under very different circumstances from me. It is clear she clung to her faith as a source of support. Much of her beliefs appear tinged with self-flagellation and talk of God's punishment; but she kept seeking God, and that is heartening. An expensive book, and I totally understand why, but still pricey, especially for something you may never read from cover to cover. This is my favorite line: "O my god yet make my house a house of god and every soul in it a tent for the holy ghost to dwell in for thy honour sake amen." I add my AMEN to that.
