Lowepro Tropolis 1100 - an excellent notebook case
Lowepro has been making high-quality camera cases and photo equipment backpacks for over forty years now, and this experience shines through in this Lowepro Tropolis 1100 notebook computer case. Must note that in the product description it's erroneously called a backpack, but it's not - it's a well-designed messenger-style computer case, or computer bag if you wish. It's a great balance of ergonomics, convenience, durability and businesslike messenger bag styling. Lowepro has always been known for providing excellent padding in their camera bags, and that experience ensures that your investment in your notebook PC will be well protected. Also worth noting is that there are plenty of pockets in this bag for power cords, USB items, and the accessories that we all carry with out notebook computers. This unit also doubles up as a good messenger bag, with a decent book compartment, perfect for storing legal pads and file folders. Its back magazine pocket quickly converts to a luggage handle sleeve for when you might be travelling with a luggage cart.If the bag is too tight for your 15.4" notebook computer, then simply move the zippered pouch for power cords and adapters found in the main compartment to the outer pocket, and it should work quite well. This bag's well-padded interior was designed to fit most 15.4" wide-screen notebook computers, but if you need a larger version, check out the Lowepro Messenger Factor L Computer Bag, which is designed to fit 17" laptop computers. The exterior both of these Lowepro Messenger Computer Bags is water-resistant, and they all have excellent interior padding. One of the most important (and often overlooked) features of these and all Lowepro computer bags is their well-known and properly padded shoulder strap, one that seems to fit the shoulder better than most. This is a very businesslike computer case, but we're all individuals who have particular needs and tastes. Luckily there are other excellent computer cases from Lowepro worth considering, such as the Lowepro Messenger Factor M Computer Bag or the Lowepro Transit Briefcase L Notebook Case. These do cover a broad range of prices and features, but they all seem to have that same high-quality construction that made this company's name and reputation in the photographic world. If you're looking for a simpler computer bag, then the Targus TSM08001US Velos Messenger may fit your needs. This dark charcoal messenger style bag, which provides two distinct looks with its two quickly interchangeable padded shoulder straps in charcoal and lime is stylish and sturdy, but lack the accessory pockets found on the cases from Lowepro.Pick the Lowepro Tropolis 1100 computer case or any of the others mentioned here and you can't go wrong. understated excellence
I've only had the Lowepro Tropolis 1250 backpack for a little over a week - but it is a breath of fresh air.i have a 'bad back', if i carry anything over a few pounds in one of my hands (like my laptop), it knocks my lower back out of kilter, and i experience weeks of pain. so i must use a backpack, even just for carrying the laptop from my office to my car in the parking lot!i bought a cheapo backpack last time around, and after the strap broke with nearly disastrous consequences, i decided to really research what was out there. naturally, amazon's customer reviews are one of the best ways to find the really good stuff - and this is good indeed.the pack is simple in styling - understated elegance in my opinion. there's no blinding fire-red stripes or hot pink patches on it as so many other packs have - sorry, that's not my idea of good taste. but far more important are the build quality and design - both of which are top-notch. the zippers are very heavy and i've no doubt they'll last a decade. the straps are well-padded, and the plastic cinchers - what broke on the last one - are solid and heavy as well.the outer pocket is very deceptive - it looks like it'd barely hold a pad of paper and some pens - but it holds piles of stuff - i have a dozen cdroms in tyvek sleeves in one pocket, a spare ethernet cable in another, pens, a knife, a mini-maglite flashlight, a roll of velcro ties, my wallet, my reading glasses in a hardshell case - and there's room to spare. that's just the OUTER pocket! the main laptop compartment is very spacious, holding my 14" laptop with room to spare (as advertised, it should hold a typical 15" laptop fine). i have a full size leather folio in the other pocket in the main compartment, and there's room for the laptop power supply as well.but best of all, it's all held close to the back - no cascade of pockets that stick out a foot and a half behind you like so many other packs. that's better for one's balance, thus easier on the back. it looks nicer, and takes up less space, proportionally, while holding just as much as the humongo packs.it really is understated excellence. my hat is off to lowepro, they've hit the absolute sweet spot in a business user's laptop backpack. i'm pleased as punch. and on top of all that - it's less expensive than some of the other laptop bags out there. this is by far the finest value one will find, period.
