Brunton - Ball and Socket Mount for Pocket Transit/Compass

This item is probably 100 years old for mounting compasses. It’s well made and Althou pricy it’s industrial standard. Not easy to break. It’s a professional tool when used with compass.

I like the fact that it is magnetic free

It works as it should. Good machining and fit my old Brunton (1990s version) just fine. I used the pocket transit to line up some frames for a solar PV array so I needed a tripod to hold it steady. It has two adjustments: the ball and socket on the lower part and also the knob that is shown in the bottom of the U frame that controls turning.

Product arrived one day before the scheduled delivery date, shipped UPS. Immediately put it to work. The only possible complaint is the tight fit when aligning socket mount for sliding onto the compass groove. It definitely leaves a mark on the aluminum compass body, but it works. I modified an existing tripod I had by removing all ferrous parts replacing them with brass. I don't expect any field issues with my set up. Thanks Brunton!

I recently picked up a Brunton pocket transit and it by far the most accurate compass I own. However, its accuracy is limited by my ability to hold it properly and align all of the components while shooting an azimuth. This head solves that issue by giving me the ability to get rock solid readings with the transit mounted on a solid tripod. The non-magnetic nature of this mount does not interfere with the sensitive needle on the transit thus eliminating any unintended error. The ball head allows for perfect alignment of the target and sights all while keeping the transit perfectly level. With this as part of the kit I am able to get the utmost accuracy out of the incredible pocket transit.I’m a hobby machinist so I know quality when I see it, and this mount has quality throughout. The fit and finish is superb and the materials are first rate. This will give me a lifetime of use.
