5 star miter saw!
I spent several weeks researching various miter saws before finally settling on the Hitachi 10 inch without laser. It went on sale for $99 on Amazon so I couldn't pass it up. I probably would have bought the Ryobi 10" slider otherwise, but after using the Hitachi for a few hours today I am completely satisfied with my decision. Setup was easy and only took about 20 minutes. Unfortunately my saw wasn't accurate out of the box so I had to make a few adjustments, which added about 10 minutes to the setup time. After setup I went straight to breaking the saw in on a small project using Douglas Fir 2x4s. I made 27 cuts with miter and bevel at 0, and 18 cuts with miter at 45 and bevel at 0. I could not ask for anything more on accuracy or consistency, and the power was plentiful for every cut. The saw never bogged down a bit, not even on the 45 degree miter cuts. And thanks to the elastomer handle grip my hand felt comfortable throughout and never got sore. I also didn't notice any vibration, just smooth cuts for the duration. All the cuts were made using the stock Hitachi 24 tooth blade, which actually does a nice job. I'll probably put a Diablo 60 tooth on it tomorrow for another project, but the Hitachi blade actually left a pretty good finish. One feature that concerned me based on the reviews is dust collection. Many claimed it hardly collects any dust in the bag and that a shop vacuum or dust collector didn't seem to help much either. I used the bag today just to test it out, and tomorrow I plan to hook it up to my shop vac with dust deputy. The bag wasn't as bad as I feared. I filled the bag completely and there was also a lot of dust on the ground, but had I stopped to empty the bag I believe it would have collected a lot more. I'd say it probably collects about 50%, which isn't great by any means but it's not terrible either imo. Most of the dust was within a couple feet from the saw and the vast majority was right behind it under the dust bag or on the saw. I can't say for sure but I believe my dust collector will collect significantly more than the bag.I believe this saw is worthy of 5 stars based on performance, price, and the 5 year warranty. I would recommend this saw to anyone interested in a no-frills saw that is accurate, consistent, powerful, and portable. If a laser is an important feature you can either buy the laser model or get an aftermarket one for $10 or so.

I Love This Thing!
OK it could be a little more square with regards to the back wall, the left is square while the right isn't. Not that much of a problem when you are aware of it, as you can correct easily. The blade is decent enough, take it very slow and you can have a finished edge without the need to sand, or just cut through 2x4's like butter. It will cut any size within 4x6 inches, fence posts etc. Light enough to carry, awkward shaped for storage but if you mimic the way it comes in the box, i.e. fully turned to the left and remove the angle adjustment lever (screws off), you can store it nicely.I've used it every day since I bought it and I find it invaluable now. The bag is 99% useless so you can basically just omit it completely, cutting all day long the bag had a handful of shavings in it, the garage floor, walls and every shelf were completely covered in a thick layer of saw dust. Putting a vacum on the end is like pissing into the wind, utterly useless. But this is probably the same for all Miter saw.All the niggles aside, I love it, cheap, effective and sooooo useful for house repairs.

Excellent and easy to use
This is my first time to use a compound miter saw so I cannot compare use to other saws. It has worked out well for me, however. My projects are easier and come out nicer using this saw (I suppose that would be true of any power miter saw).Cons: The clamping mechanism which works but is not easy enough to switch from the left to the right side. The wing nuts screw hard and are a bit time consuming - a big plus would be a saw with quick lock/unlock on both sides. I have been using my own clamps on the right side to avoid changing the position of the single clamp provided. The plate at the bottom where the saw blade passes through the plane of the table was not attached correctly out of the box (see the green plastic piece in the center of the saw table surface). Before using the saw I could see that the blade would hit this piece when the saw was in 45 degree bevel (or near 45 degrees). I have to guess that it would have ripped this plastic to pieces if the saw blade had hit it (maybe it would have cut it cleanly??). I loosened the plate and pushed it hard to the right and tightened it again so that the saw blade would just clear it without hitting. The manual should specify that this plate be checked before first use unless I was just over-cautious and the saw would just shave the plate off cleanly (doesn't seem like it would and it would have definitely hit!). Pros: The adjustments are easy and the cuts are perfect. It is easy to move around. Locking trigger handy to protect my kids from using this without my help (own small padlock needed).5-stars rating despite my cons listed because I simply like the tool and the quality and service compared to the price paid are excellent having only paid a hundred. Even had I paid a bit more I would not be disappointed at all. I was about to pay 25 more for this at a big box store and I am sure I would have been happy with it but thanks to Amazon I keep the extra money this time.

Met my expectations
Basically I bought this to cut the small wooden logs we use for heating water in our house in the home town, it works fabulously, my father who is 70+ years loves it.

Good tool.
Hard to compare since this is my first, but easy to use and set up. I'm also biased and lucky that I got it for $99 a few years back. Overall, I like Hitachi products. Great value and easy to use. If it seems right to you, don't hesitate to buy.

Great saw, with minor issues
Excellent saw. Cuts like butter even with the OEM blade, no stalls, kickback or jams. The action is fluid and easy to control. Detente on the trigger is just strong enough to be comfortable for long applications while providing control. As other said, don't expect much use from that tiny dust collection bag, and plan to connect it to a shop-vac instead. Altogether a good tool that should last a while.Note that you will need to bolt this down: The center of gravity is to the rear and the saw is a bit unstable otherwise. I fixed mine to a piece of 3/4 plywood that gets clamped down when used, to make it easier to move the saw around when needed.Lost a star for quality control issues: Assembly instructions are awful, spending more time telling you not to cut your fingers off than it does telling you how to assemble the thing. The "included" box wrench was missing. The blade guard assemble is a bit wobbly and there are no means to adjust this.
