Firefighter/Paramedic Tested... Passed with flying colors...
I am a firefighter/paramedic... I work 24 hour shifts on the ambulance. As a result I carry meals and drinks in a cooler with me in case I cannot stop to grab a meal due to high call volume (and even if I do get a chance to order a meal at a restaurant, eating out gets expensive after a while, not to mention the whole "unhealthy" aspect.) Before ordering the freeze packs I would simply fill my cooler with ice from the fire station. I would have to empty and refill at least three to four times per shift because of melting. Now, I admit, I have a relatively cheap soft cooler that does not hold the cold very well so I never expected to have the ice last the full 24 hours of the shift.<-- (remember this part for later). After getting a little tired of dumping melted water out , refill with more ice and having to dry off all my containers I decided to look for a better solution to keeping my food cold and dry. I ran across the Cooler Shock ice packs while cruising through amazon. Initially I thought they were a bit expensive and scrolled right on past them. But as I looked through numerous other ice packs I was not really impressed with their reviews. Seemed to be a lot of 1, 2 and 3 star reviews. Remembering the high review marks for the Cooler Shock packs I went back to see what they had to offer. After reading through review after review of high praises I decided to pull the trigger on a set of the mid sized packs. Upon their arrival I followed the You Tube video tutorial for filling and sealing the packs... The process was pretty simple (and was kinda fun getting to do it yourself). Threw them in the freezer and waited for my next shift at work. Well... the next shift rolled around a couple days later... I threw ONE Cooler Shock pack in the bottom of my cooler and packed my meals and drinks on top. Get this-- When I unpacked my Turkey to make my sandwich for lunch (around 5 hours into my day), it was frozen... The cooler pack held the cold so well it actually FROZE my lunch meat... I also keep single packs of mustard and mayo we collect from fast food joints...My mustard packs had ice crystals in them. Needless to say I was impressed so far. But, I had roughly 19 hours left in my shift... time would tell how well these packs do. As the day progressed into evening I was able to take a few minutes to get my dinner (leftovers from the previous night's meal at home) and detonate it in the microwave. Checking on the cooler pack I found that it had thawed around the edges but still had a significant chunk of solid ice in the middle of the pack. We are talking ten hours or so into the shift at this point. Now I'm starting to get really impressed. So, the rest of the shift came and went... We got to sleep a good bit of the night (woo-hoo). As the shift ended I packed up all my gear that goes home with me, to include my cooler. When I got home I unpacked the remainder of my food and drinks. Here is the awesome part... It is now over 24 hours since i packed a frozen cooler pack into my lunch box... I wish I could tell you that some of it was still frozen but that was not the case... HOWEVER, the pack was still super cold and the inside of my cooler was cold enough that I did not worry one iota about the safety of my food. The leftovers I brought home were still cold enough that I trusted being able to eat them for lunch that day. And the one coke zero I had left was still cold enough to drink straight from the can. And I didn't have to empty melted ice or refill once. So, after only one shift with the Cooler Shock pack I am sold on it's performance. I bought these packs over a month ago and have used them every shift since. Now, remember the part earlier where I said I use a cheap soft cooler... I do not have one of the Yetis or Ozark Trail or R-tic brand coolers... I have a $5 Walmart special and the pack I use stays cold enough for over 24 hours. Imagine what would happen if I actually spent the $$ on a high quality cooler. I bet the pack would stay frozen. I even had the chance to use multiple packs in a Coleman cooler when I went to Florida to get my SCUBA certification. After the four hour drive down and the six hour day at Vortex Spring the three packs I used were still virtually frozen solid and all my food/drinks were super cold. These packs are worth every penny and you WILL NOT be disappointed in their performance. Trust me on this one....

Works Great in Africa!
Bottom Line: I used two of these during an open water boating and beach trip in equatorial Africa, and they performed exactly as advertised. They'll be superb for your average afternoon BBQ, picnic or softball game. I recommend. Background: I am stationed in equatorial Africa, where it's HOT year round, morning and night. Ice is a rarity, given the expense of electricity. I use coolers for boating and hiking/picnic type events, plus barbecues and other outdoor social events. We go through a lot of ice, which takes up volume and is heavy, especially for a small boat. I figured I'd give Cooler Shock a try.Assembly: Exactly as the instructions are written, very simple, only takes a few minutes. I do recommend that you do the full process for each one at a time (up to ironing and shaking a few times). The powder begins to gel almost instantly, so you want to shake it and mix it well immediately. Not that you can't as it gel-ifies, but it's easier in semi-liquid form.Trial Use: I put two midsize packs in a standard Igloo 48-qt cooler along with a mix of sodas, wine bottles, and food. Having read the reviews and instructions, I wanted to avoid the wine freezing. I lay them flat on the bottom with a towel over them (thanks to the Samoyed-owner's review, great tip), then laid down a mix of cold and warm sodas, then the wine bottles (cold), then the food in plasticware. The packs went in at 0730AM, and I was on the water at 0815 to a nearby beach resort for two days. The arrangement cooled the warm drinks and kept everything cold to cool for just over 24 hours, which is really impressive after the sun beating down on the cooler for several hours, then being on a beach for the rest of the day and night. The difference in weight is huge, no more lugging a 35 pound cooler any more; and the volume available for food and drink is much increased. I needed to refrigerate the wine the second day, but that's down to my conservative approach first time out of the box.Lessons Learned: This is fun to experiment with (if you're a somewhat nerdy tinkerer like me). In the end I suspect I didn't need the towel (cokes being far less worrisome to freeze and thaw); and next time I'll probably use three or four packs standing up, no towel. The heat/cold exchange is very efficient, meaning warm items can be stacked and cooled in situ. Different arrangements of the packs and arrangement of the contents permit quite a bit of storage, with some experimentation. I also purchased some larger ones, so I'll review those later.Comparison: Is it better than ice or other packs? On ice, yes, because of the savings on volume and weight. It also permits a separate cooler for drinking ice, if that's what's required at your event (it would be interesting to see if a Pack or two aided in ice preservation...). Is it better than other packs? I'm no expert, and I haven't done test comparisons. That said, Cooler Shock packs seem to require less volume than the typical cooler pack (hard or soft, traditional "blue" types) and hold the cold as well or better. Strikes me as a good investment and I'm not disappointed.

Best ice pack for the price
After just purchasing my Grizzly 40 and RTIC 30 SoftPak coolers I immediately began researching alternatives to regular ice. Don't get me wrong, ice cubes work marvelously but I don't always want to deal with having my food slosh around in water when the ice melts... especially in the SoftPak with no dry tray. I looked at the usual suspects like Yeti Ice and Arctic Alaskan packs but I could just not convince myself to pull the trigger on a single $20-$40 ice pack.I turned to Amazon to search for "best cooler ice pack" and that's when Cooler Shock popped up. After reading the 1,100+ 5-star reviews for Cooler Shock, I immediately pulled the trigger. After owning these packs for the last week now I am very pleased with their performance and quality. The packs ship with detailed instructions and were super easy to fill and seal myself. After 48 hrs they are ready for use and keep my new coolers perfectly cold without adding ice cubes. I can only imagine how much these Cooler Shock packs will compliment using ice cubes as well for those weekend excursions where I don't have to worry about food for days. Getting (4) Cooler Shock ice packs for $20 is a value that the competitors can't touch!Final note, some people comment that the bag itself is slightly too thin for their taste and had problems with tears and punctures. I am typically not that hard on my equipment and take caution with loading the cooler so this didn't seem to worry me. BUT, for good measure, I used a food saver machine with an 11" roll and actually custom vacuum sealed my Cooler Shock ice packs. This was just the extra amount of security I needed for the piece of mind that my packs were protected. Plus my Cooler Shock packs won't freezer burn now...ha, just a joke about the freezer burn people :)

BRILLIANT FREEZE PACKS
These Freeze packs are amazing, I looked at the video to see exactly what I had to do, which is very simple and straightforward. I work all around the country in the summer months at events on showgrounds and do not always have access to electricity so these are brilliant for keeping my cool box extra cold and found that they last well over the 48 hour period they state, marvellous would not hesitate to recommend them, they are far superior to the water freezer packs you usually use which only last hours as opposed to days. Make sure that you do the initial freeze for at least 48 hours as this really freezes up the reactive gel inside.

Best freezer packs we've had!!! And amazing customer service from seller.
These are amazing cooler packs. I have taken them on day trips, bbq gatherings and back country camping. They keep their cool for at least 36 hours without and other ice and longer in cooler weather. On our last back country trip they kept their cool for 3 days before dethawing without and other ice. They are nice and compact as they lay flat and dont take up much room in the cooler at all compared to the big blue chunky packs.

Better than ice cubes for a barrel bar.
These packs were bigger than I was anticipating, but they do the job perfectly. I have got one of those 'bar barrels' and these kept the drinks cold all night. Everyone was so impressed by them they are going to purchase some themselves. Much better than ice cubes around the drinks.

Do exactly what they say
They do exactly what they say. Little fiddly yo seal but once you get the hang of it they are no problem. Also handy for cool pads for bumps and scapes when they cool slightly and go back to gel.
