My Non-Compensated Thoughts
Did most of the people reviewing this product actually try it or did they feel the need to write a positive review because they practically got a free hat? I had to buy cap - at full price so I wish I got a discount!! This hat isn't waterproof at all! Water does bead off the fabric but it does eventually soak through and plus the seams aren't taped so I can't understand what reviewers and the copy are saying about it being waterproof. I'll be fair and consider that I might have gotten a newer/older model but if that's the case, someone should revise the description.Good:- * Face and side flaps can be used independently [but....- Washable plastic brim stiffener- Cap by itself is very accommodating to large heads- Good airflow over nose for breathing- Well made (no loose threads sticking out, plastic snaps feel secure, even stitching, doesn't feel like a $1 hat)- Not too stifling, light fabricNot As Good:- *..the side flap is one entire piece]- NOT waterproof as advertised- Quite snug face flap under the eyes- A bit of a struggle to detach/attach the face flap while wearing the cap (because of the location of the snap button under the side flap for times you want to be sociable and talk to someone for a few minutes without having your face covered)- Front flap too short to tuck into a shirtThe face flap isn't adjustable but you can attach it to the first snaps on the front that is meant for the side flap to make it fit more loosely but if you want to use the side flaps, you'll have to deal with a 1" gap of exposure. Somehow after one wash, the tightness of the face flap loosened a teeny tiny bit but not by enough so I still have to readjust it sometimes but it is a bit more comfortable. For my needs, I decided to keep this cap because the strength of the good points outweigh the bad ones.-2 stars for the snug face flap but especially for saying it's waterproof when it isn't.

Some unprotected areas
Very well-made item. Beautiful color and great fabric. Snaps work very well to keep the neck flap and face flap (veil) in place. Folds up easily and very compact, so fits in the smallest purse, even a pocket.I gave it 4 stars versus 5 for 2 reasons, both because of exposed areas. There is a hole in the back for a ponytail, and that is an excellent idea when folks don't need the solar protection there. The lower/neck flap, however, is also split into two sections such that, when worn, a good area of the neck can be exposed to the sun, especially if you have snapped the flap in the front closed. When snapped in front, the neck flap becomes more of a "shoulder" flap or cover.Secondly, and this is simply a function of the hat's design I should have realized when buying it, the areas at my temples/upper face area exposed to sunlight. This is a triangular area about 1 x 2.5 inches outside of the eyebrows. Not a big area, but one where I already have skin damage. I can reduce this area by snapping the neck piece flap in the front, but then this pulls the flap away from the rear of my neck, exposing the area above my shirt collar. I can again reduce (but not eliminate) this exposed area at the temples by installing the face flap (which fits nicely), but I would probably seldom wear the face flap, unless at the beach on a boat, so infrequently.I have decided to keep the hat despite these issues as it is so well-made and compact that I can at least fold it up into my purse and have it for some protection when out and about. Also, I decided that I would seldom snap the neck flap in the front, so I am sewing up the rear split in the neck flap to keep full protection on the back of my neck.

I would buy it again.
I usually don't look twice at items that have paid reviews on them, when people get the product for free or at a discount. (Amazon, when will you put a stop to that?)However this hat ROCKS! It is everything other reviewers claimed it to be. I would only add that although incredibly light and fold-able, its also rather hot. The mesh on the skull cap is covered by cloth so it does not aerate well. It looks so nice I almost want to buy a few more in different colors. This ICOLOR sun hat is very well made with no flaws at all and the color is pretty. If money was no object and I had a choice between the O.R. Sun Runner hat for $35 or this hat... I would buy this hat every time!

fine. If not
Do you want to have brown spots on your face from sun exposure? Okay, fine. If not, you should try this. You can go outside without fear of the horrible aging and detrimental effects of the sun. Your face will be protected from that awful hyperpigmentation. I use this when I drive, if I"m gardening and on vacation in sunny locations....yeah, it does look a little strange-yes, people think I"m some strange cult-like religion or whatever, and I have to explain why I would wear this.....but it's up to you. If you want to protect your face, you'll love this.
