Captivating stories
I bought this book to use with my tutoring students, and they really liked the stories in them. They have great skill building standards, and the book is well organized. It is a little repetitive though. They got bored with it after awhile. I was able to use it as a spring board for several of my own comprehension lessons which was nice. If you can get this book at a good price and need it for a couple of lesson fillers, or spring board comprehension activities it's perfect, and kids really do love the stories.

Kids love it!
I teach 5th graders who usually hate to read and hate to write even more. However, they LOVE the stories in this book. Rather than use it as a read aloud guide, I let the kids read the story independently and then create their own endings to the cliffhanger. Then we have a writing contest -- they love it!

Catch 'em and Keep 'em
This product is great! My students were engaged and loved the stories! I teach eighth graders in an urban school district, and they found these stories hilarious! They were able to follow te stories and identify the key concepts while actually enjoying English class. These stories provided a lighter more entertaining way to teach and learn! Buy it! Buy it! Buy it! You'll catch their attention and keep it!

Great stories!
I bought this book, and the non-fiction version, for an enrichment class I am teaching to gifted readers in second grade. The kids love cliffhangers, and they really are enjoying these stories. Good pre-reading and post-reading lessons and activities.

Good not great
I use this for a flex class, the kids engage in conversations and we make predictions about the outcomes but it isn't as engaging as I was hoping for

Really cute stories. I was able to get the kids to expand the story based on their own ideas.

Teaching reading & writing
Sometimes it's good to give children short sharp writing tasks, that can be done and dusted in one session, rather than the everlasting story that goes on and on and on. One part of writing that kids find really hard is writing an effective end. This book has a collection of short (2 page) story resources, where you can choose to read the ending that the author has written, or keep this secret, and let the children write their own ending. The stories themselves are not super fantastic, but they do the job! The book gives guidance for comprehension and writing activities and adds another tool to your armoury of teaching devices for teachers (or parents teaching the children at home). This book does not contain the traditional "question & answer" type comprehensions, however if the children cannot suggest an ending that is appropriate to the story - then lack of comprehension becomes obvious. Good for discussing the concept of the cliffhanger in writing too. May work well with reading "Cliffhanger" by Jaqueline Wilson or "The Iron, the Switch and the Broomcupboard" by Micheal Lawrence.

Disappointed
At first glance, this is fantastic to use in guided reading alongside the topic 'Adventure Stories.' Actually, the quality of the stories disappointed me as words are spelt in the American way as well as some unusual sayings. I love the fact that the children have an interesting writing task as a follow up activity. I can't use this how I planned to, but it's okay.
