Fabulous
I've probably owned more Headphones then you, unless you've owned/own more then 200 set.Hifiman, Audeze, Shure, Quad, Neumann, AKG, Beyer, Sennheiser, Klipsch, Fostex, Mad Dog, Aeon..............................>>>>>>.IVe owned everything, but i'd never tried THIS TYPE till now.So, i took the plunge, and discovered an end game sound. Its really that good. They are also very uncomfortable, but you can buy a $80 mod from some company in, i think, Sweden, Denmark, Amsterdamn.....one of those.....its online.......but i haven't yet, and can't say for certain that i will. Now, they are slightly midrange dominant, but this is always better then "V" shape.Bass is extended and rich, and trebles are perfect. If you buy them, and understand what "audiophile" sound is supposed to be, then you will be very happy with these headphones. The sound they create competes with any headphone at any price.Comfortable? no....as i said.Sound truly amazing?....Yes, with everything..........all genres. Most listeners who hear these are going to think...."these are the best sounding headphones ive ever heard".Sort of like the other reviewer here stated, .....go read. So, i can't speak for him, but as i said, ive owned everything....and have enjoyed some, but absolutely love these Stax. And i predict that you will as well..They are not comfortable........but wow.....the sound.

Amazing
These are amazing. I purchased for mixing and mastering work (of my own music). I don't get the gripes about the size and shape of the phones/earpads. They are so feather light, I can work for hours doing close A/B scrutiny on tracks with them on....I recommend these over magnetic planar phones ANY day (and yes, I have tried a few of the "top" brands).Cheers!

broken already
For the first month, these headphones were amazing. great quality, good clamp so you can wear them all day, ect. they could be loud, quiet, and everything in-between.Then the head strap broke. The freaking piece of cheap plastic that holds the headpieces together broke in half. I tried super glueing them, in vain hopes that they would hold together for a little while longer, but to no avail. The left speaker began clicking weirdly. The head strap for these are $90 freaking dollars. Unless you have a great way to fix these, willing to shill out $90 for a new strap, or can make one yourself, I wouldn't buy these.

My end game
The L300 sound amazing and I can highly recommend it but I do suggest people get the Socas Padmod and XB700 pads to go with them (as shown in the picture that accompanies this review).

Best pair of headphones I've ever owned.
This is the best pair of headphones I've ever owned.Up until now, I've always been a sennheiser fan, and still have a pair of HD650 paired with a bottlehead crack amp.The stax is just so much better. The separation of instruments, and vocals is incredible. With every other pair of headphones I've ever owned, there's a frequency in the midrange where everything becomes muddled and incohesive. The stax removes this completely, and at no point does my ear feel fatigued. It's all crystal clear, and so engaging. No dsp gimmics, no bull$#!+, just music!
